Chapter 6:
Harry runs as hard as possible weaving throughout the small crowd of crew members and important people backstage. Pushing everything out of his way, from prop carts, to equipment, to clothing racks, to people, he finally stumbles his way through his shared dressing room door, slamming it hard against its metal frame.
"I'm in love.. I think." He shouts as he leans against the door, panting, completely out of breath from the running.
"Haz, what has gotten into you? Since when are you in love?" Louis, his bandmate, asks in confusion.
"Yeah mate, you've been acting weird since the sound check." Zayn chimes in. "Typically you get drunk in between the sound check and the show.. You know ever since..."
"Zayn... I don't.. want to talk.. about.. that! Besides there... is.. no.. time... for talking." Harry manages, trying to brush off the fresh topic.
"Help you with what? You go from drinking and moping around feeling sorry for yourself every night since tour began to.. to.. well to acting insane!" Niall gripes. "How could you possibly be in love? Especially when less than twenty-four hours ago you hated the world and wanted to drink your life away. If anything, you're infatuated.. Maybe."
Harry ignores Niall's statement and travels back to his previous quest. "I'll explain everything later! I told you, I think I found her, the one I've been dreaming about. And I certainly can't meet her looking like this!" He answers finally catching his breath.
"Found her? Harry, I know you've been dreaming about some fantasy girl ever since.. well you know.. that night, but Harry that's exactly what she is. A fantasy. She isn't real. She's just your subconscious trying to ease the pain you're feeling. You have to let it go. They're only dreams. I'm glad you didn't drink tonight and I'm proud of you. It's the first step to you're mental, emotional, and physical recovery. Now don't go and sabotage it by believing you've found a girl that doesn't exist, because to be honest that's the worst thing for you right now." Louis attempts to talk some sense into his friend.
"No.. NO! Louis you're wrong! It's her, I know it is! I've had dreams about her every night. It looks exactly like her! The way she acted tonight.. The way she smiled, laughed.. The way she looked at me.. It's her, it has to be!" Harry yells. His band mates begin to sense his frustration towards them.
Liam stands up from the couch in the large dressing room and walks towards Harry placing a hand on his shoulder. "Harry, I know it hasn't been easy for you the past few months." He begins softly, "I know it's been difficult, but Louis' right. You need to start looking at things logically. We're your brothers; we want what's best for you."
"I know you guys don't believe me, and I know I sound like I'm loosing my mind. You probably think I was hallucinating or something due to my lack of desire for alcohol tonight. But it's her. Don't try to tell me it's not!" Harry states. The other four boys remain silent. "I'm going to freshen up."
Harry walks quickly over to the rack of clothes hanging behind the couch. He grabs a black T-shirt and a pair of black jeans before heading to the bathroom sink. He washes his face. The cool water from the washcloth begins to soothe his hot skin allowing him to think clearly. He re-applies deodorant and aftershave before stripping down and changing into his freshly clean pair of clothes. He brushes his teeth and looks into the mirror.
"It's her. It has to be. The lads just don't understand." He thinks, trying to convince himself against the doubt his friends had recently bestowed upon him.
Harry walks back into the dressing room shutting the bathroom door behind him. The other four band mates are seated on the sofa in silence watching whatever show is on the television screen. Harry sits on the end, twiddling his thumbs, trying to avoid another conversation with his buddies, knowing where it would lead. Within five minutes there is a knock on the door. Paul sticks his head in.
"Guys, the meet in greet is about to start. There's a line full of girls, screaming for you to come out already. Please hurry, they're giving me a headache!" Paul jokes as all five members of One Direction stand up. Niall, Liam, Louis, and Zayn all chuckle at Paul's humor as they exit the room. Harry remains silent, as he's the last to leave.
Meanwhile, I on the other hand was stuck in a public bathroom with my sister Kennedy and our friend Melissa.
"Hurry up...." I complained as they freshened up their makeup and re-applied perfume.
"You can't rush beauty!" Kennedy joked tossing a bottle of some fancy liquid at me. "Here use this." She instructed.
I lift the bottle to my nose and sniff. Whatever it was had a sweet smell to it. "What is it?" I asked, intrigued.
"It's Alien, by Theirry Mugler" she stated, applying more mascara.
What?
"Excuse me? Huh?"
"It's a perfume." Kennedy answered the question she basically forced me to ask.
"Not just any perfume, Harry's favorite!" Melissa added smirking into the smudgy mirror. I could tell it hadn't been cleaned in a while.
"Why am I holding it?" I questioned wondering why again. Apparently I was too busy not caring to remember they wanted me to spray some on.
"Just put it on!" Kennedy commanded.
I spritzed the liquid around me, trying not to drench myself in the heavy perfume. The girls seemed pleased. After two more minutes Kenny and Mel were finally finished.
"All done!" They screamed excitedly.
I rolled my eyes, and laughed quietly to myself. I love them, but sometimes they overdo their insaneness. Taking the five minute walk to the meet and greet location, I attempted to involve myself in a little idle chatter. The girls and I discussed how fun the show was until we stopped abruptly at the end of a long line of giddy hormonal girls. The three of us we're the last to form the line. Slowly but surely Melissa, Kennedy and Kendall.. well myself, made our way through the line until there were only four more groups ahead of us.
That curly haired, green eyed boy and I made eye contact for the first time since entering the room. His facial expressions went from emotionless to somewhat happy in an instant. His eyes brightened at the sight of me and a small smile curled on his lips, his dimples were visible to everyone in the room. However to me, at that time, this action went unnoticed. I didn't realize his change in emotion, his eyes, or even the dimpled smile. The only thing I noticed when I looked at him was a wall, a wall slowly building, growing around me. A wall protecting me, attempting to guard me. A wall sheltering me from everything I was about to endure. A wall that I was trying to maintain. A wall that in time would eventually shatter. In that moment, I knew none of this. I knew nothing that was to come. I didn't know what had happened before, prior to me walking into that room. I didn't know, that what would happen within those next few moments would turn my world upside down.
