Blind Love

Ashley wakes up the next morning to a knocking on her door. As the door cracks open, Ashley sees her mom's head peek in the room. Mustering up a smile after being woken up, Ashley motions her mom to step in.

"Hey, honey. I didn't get a chance to talk to you last night. Did you come in late? I never heard you," Joanne says worriedly.

"Mom, don't worry. I did come in a little later, but you and dad were already asleep from your movie. I ate dinner at a friends," Ashley assures her mother.

"Oh, good. I was a little worried," her mom says as she sits on the edge of the bed. "So, who's house were you at yesterday?"

"Um, it was a new boy at school. He has actually just moved in with his aunt next door. We were working on a project for drama," Ashley explains.

"Next door? Isn't that your counselor?" her mother asks.

"Yep, the very one. Her nephew Brandon just moved in with her. I'll probably go over there later to work on our project some more," Ashley says.

"That sounds fine, sweetie. I'm going to get ready for work. Enjoy your Saturday," Joanne says while hugging her daughter.

"Okay Mom. Love you," Ashley says.

"Love you, too, sweetie."

After her mother leaves, Ashley remains in bed pondering what to do with her Saturday. She didn't have cheer practice or plans with the girls. Nothing at home sounded fun to do. There was only one thing she really wanted to do. Glancing at her clock, she saw it was nine-thirty. Nice starts at nine, she thought, and got up to shower and dress. She was going to surprise someone.

As Ashley walked the path to his front door, she hopes he wouldn't be mad at her for stopping by early unannounced. Oh well, she finally thought, knocking on the door. He'll get over it.

"Oh, Ashley. What a pleasant surprise," came Rachel's voice from the other side of the door.

"Sorry for dropping by so early, ma'am. I hope you don't mind," Ashley says quickly.

"Nonsense! Come on in, you're always welcome here. I'm guessing you're here to see Brandon and not to get counseling from me?" Rachel teased.

Ashley blushed a bit and nodded. "Yes, ma'am. I was hoping to get some more work on our project done."

"Well, if you can get Brandon up, he's all yours. He's not a morning person, trust me," Rachel winced. "Anyway, I was just headed to run some errands. You can go on and see if he's awake. His room is just around the corner."

"Okay," Ashley whispers feeling slightly nervous. Rachel just nods while grabbing her purse and wishing Ashley a good day. After Rachel is gone leaving Ashley in the silent house, she takes a deep breath and walks around the corner. Not knowing what to expect, she quietly opens the correct door and peaks in.

The sight Ashley sees makes her catch her breath. Brandon is shirtless under the covers and his entire face is in view, relaxed while in sleep. Ashley still can't see his eyes, but she can see the attractive face and body he has kept so carefully hidden. She just stares at him in awe, and as she takes a step forward, a floorboard creaks and Brandon flinches. Ashley freezes but it's too late. He's awake.

"Rachel? Go away," he mumbles, turning his back to her on the bed. Ashley rolls her eyes and steps toward him.

"It's not Rachel. It's me, Ashley. She said I could come in here and wake you. She just left as I stopped in," Ashley says quietly.
