Blind Love
Ashley and Brandon sat in her car on the curb just talking about whatever came to mind for most of the afternoon. When they finally separated they still hadn't talked at all of their project, just spent time in each others presence.
Inside her home, Ashley hurried to the kitchen to see her mom preparing dinner.
"Hey, Mom. How was work?" Ashley says hopping on the counter.
"Oh, you know. Work is work," she waves her hand. "How was school? And that boy you spend all your time with lately?"
Ashley ducks her face to hide her blush. "School was fine. So is Brandon."
"Do you like him?" her mother asks forwardly.
"Mom!" Ashley exclaims. "We are friends. Good friends. No, I don't like him."
"Okay, whatever you say," her mom sings, convinced her daughter has feelings for the boy. "Why don't you invite him over for dinner sometime? I'd love to meet him."
Ashley smiles. "Great idea. I'll ask him to come soon."
"Wonderful," she smiles. "Now, dinner's about ready. Can you help me finish up, dear?"
"Of course," Ashley says.
After dinner, Ashley heads up to her room and gets through her homework. As she's finishing up, she gets an unexpected call.
"Miss me already?" Ashley answers the phone.
"Oh, you know it," Brandon replies sarcastically.
Ashley laughs. "Actually, I'm surprised you called. When I gave you my number, I half expected you to delete it."
"Oh, I'm not that mean," he says. "But I did call you for a reason. I can't go to school tomorrow, so don't go into panic when I'm not here in the morning."
"Why aren't you going to school?" Ashley asks suspiciously.
Brandon exhales heavily. "Im not ditching. I have a few doctor appointments. Rachel is taking me."
Ashley sighs exasperatingly. "Ugh, school is going to be boring tomorrow without you."
"Stop groaning. Your friends will be there. You've hung out with them way longer than with me," Brandon says.
"Yes, but since I met you I find them much more annoying. Plus, I don't think they like me anymore," Ashley admits.
"No one cannot like you. It's impossible," Brandon assures her.
"Aww, how sweet," Ashley coos.
"I'm hanging up now," he warns.
"No! Let's talk. We won't get to tomorrow!" Ashley insists.
And that is how they ended up having a five hour long conversation until three in the morning. Brandon finally hangs up then after hearing Ashley's quiet, sleepy breaths. He shakes his head and closes his own eyes. That girl is something else.

The next day at school, Ashley finds herself bored out of her mind. Not only is Brandon gone, but her usual happy attitude is replaced with a tired, grumpy feeling from staying up too late last night. She finds herself withdrawn from everyone's gossip and chatter. So many things she used to do with the girls seemed unimportant now.
Ashley chose to simply sit at Brandon's usual table for lunch and find solitude there. Unfortunately, she was not so lucky.
"Hey, Ash!" Jess's voice squeals. Ashley winces and looks at the girl, hoping she'll make it quick.
