Blind Love
The next morning, Ashley gets up in an extra happy mood, humming to herself and skipping around as she gets ready. Yesterday she refused to admit she even kind of liked Brandon, and now she is hopelessly falling for him.
"You're in a good mood this morning," her mother notices and Ashley steps in the kitchen. She turns to scrutinize her daughter with her hands on her hips.
Ashley shrugs. "What can I say? It's Friday!"
"Mmm-hmm, that's not all of it," she disagrees. "Anyway, I made you some breakfast. I don't have to be at work until later."
"Thanks, Mom," Ashley smiles as she quickly digs in. She glances at the clock and hurriedly stands. "It was good-I've got to go! See you later!"
"Bye, honey! Love you!" Joanne calls after her.
Out the door, Ashley races across the yard to Brandon's house. She bumps into Rachel as she's walking out the door.
"Ashley! Good morning," Rachel greets. "Brandon's actually waiting in the living room. I don't know what you've done to him, but keep it up."
Ashley smiles. "I don't know what you're talking about, but I'll try."
"Well, I'll be on my way. See you later," Rachel hurries to her car.
"See you!" Ashley shouts after her. Walking in the house, she sees Brandon sitting patiently on the couch waiting for her. And, unlike most mornings, he does not have a scowl on his face.
"Wow, Rachel was right. You are acting different," Ashley says in amazement.
Brandon glares in her direction. "God forbid I get up early one day in my life. I'll be sure to never do it again."
Ashley rolls her eyes as plops on the couch beside him. "Chill out, Brandon. I was only teasing. I'm happy to see you up this morning without being dragged out of bed."
A small smile flits across Brandon's face as he reaches for her hand. "Alright. We should probably go."
Brandon nods and stands. "After you, my lady."

At school, the morning proceeds as usual when they arrive. As they walk down the halls hand in hand after their kiss yesterday, they receive some long looks. It's a bit uncomfortable, but Ashley shakes it off and focuses on the positives. No need to worry about what everyone thinks.
Sitting at lunch later, Ashley laughs at something Brandon said as she sits beside him with her head on his shoulder. They're so comfortable and in their own world, neither one of them hear someone approach them.
"Hel-lo. Im talking to you. Ash? Ash-ley?" an annoying voice drags out. Looking up, Ashley sees it is her old friend Jess. Anger surfaces from the interruption, especially from this person. At the same time, Brandon stiffens uncomfortably.
"Yes, Jess? What do you want?" Ashley asks almost rudely.
Jess scoffs. "Just to see what is up with you. You've blown me off and missed cheer practice all week."
"Well, last I checked I was just a 'ugly wannabe', so I don't expect you to be concerned about my absence."
"Come on, Ash. You know I didn't mean that. If you don't start coming to practice, you'll get kicked off the team," Jess attempts to take back her insults and seem like a caring friend.
"So? My life is happier without the trivial drama that comes with cheer leading. And it doesn't seem as though any of you miss me," Ashley points out.
