Blind Love

Waking bright and early the next morning, Ashley smiles to herself and quickly starts to get ready. She's normally in a pretty good mood, and today is no exception. She can feel it is going to be a good day.

"Good morning, Mom!" she sings as she skips in the kitchen.

"Morning, honey. Have some breakfast," her mother spoons eggs on a plate in front of her and adds toast.

"Thanks. It looks great," Ashley takes a bite.

"Mmm. So, was last night okay? I tried to keep your father from embarrassing you too much. I hope Brandon was comfortable..."

"Mom, relax. It was great. I think he actually had a good time. So, what'd you think of him?" Ashley questions.

"Oh, honey, I thought he was great! He was a little quiet, but that kind of balances your perky nature. And he's very easy on the eyes," her mother gushes.

"Mom!" Ashley scolds with a blush warming her cheeks.

"Huh? Oh, sorry, dear. I forget you get so embarrassed about these things. I just meant I approve of him," she assures her.

"Great, Mom, but it's not like we're dating. We're friends," Ashley clarifies.

"Mmm-hmm. Whatever you say, dear," Joanne teases.

Ashley rolls her eyes and pushes her plate away. "I'm going to school. See you later."

"Bye!" her mother says after her, then shouts, "Say hello to Brandon for me!"

Ashley shakes her head and makes her way over to Brandon's house. Knocking on the door, she's unsurprised to see Rachel standing behind it looking ready to head out the door.

"Good morning, Ashley!" Rachel says. "I've gotten run, see you later!"

"Bye!" Ashley shouts after Rachel as she rushes out the door as to her car. Smiling to herself, she steps into the house to wait for Brandon.

"Hey, what are you doing? Lets go," Brandon says as he walks into the room. Ashley looks up in surprise and narrows her eyes.

"What are you doing ready so early? I normally have to wait."

Brandon shrugs. "Thought I'd switch it up."

"Alright, then. I guess we'll go," Ashley stands and walks with Brandon to the car. Once they are in they make the quick trip to school.

"Here we go. Ready for a great day?" Ashley asks.

Brandon rolls his eyes and pushes his sunglasses closer to his face. Surprisingly, he isn't wearing a hooded sweatshirt over his face. He's wearing a simple tee shirt with a light jacket over it-showing off his good looks he usually hides.

Noticing this, Ashley decides to comment. "No hoodie today?"

Brandon scratches the back of his neck awkwardly. "Nah. Thought I'd try to just be me today."

"Well, I love it. You never needed the hood," she says with her arm wrapped around his as they walked.

Throughout the day, Brandon did get more looks than usual. He had been on everyone's radar since he arrived, but his new look attracted more attention. This mysterious blind boy walked with more confidence, though it was easy to see he was unsure of himself. Of course all the girls noticed how attractive he was, and he was uncomfortable as he felt the eyes on him.

Ashley on the other hand was irritated with everyone's fixation on Brandon. Just because he was different didn't mean they could stare. Plus all the lingering eyes of the girls at seeing his looks upset her. Oh, no. No way she was feeling jealous.
