(Part 1)
I wake up the next morning and Harry is by my side. We have been inseparable since the day Natalie's body was found. No one understands Harry's pain more than I do! when we are around each other it makes things a little bit easier to handle. I turn towards Harry and watch how peaceful he sleeps, knowing when he wakes up a wave of depression will hit him again. I run my fingers through his loose ringlets. Wow, he is so perfect. Harry's eyes slowly open and he embraces me into a hug.
"Morning Gracie,"
he hasn't called me Gracie I'm forever!
"Morning Harry,"
I smile up at him and we lock eyes for what feels like forever.
"I love the way you smile."
I pull the covers over my face to hide my blushing cheeks. He laughs,
"What are you doing under there?"
"Nothing!"
"Please come out! I want to see your pretty face again!"
I start to bring the covers down, but I yank them over me again before he sees me.
"That's it..."
He gets up and throws me over his shoulder, blanket and all.
"Put me down Harry!"
He sets me down on the couch.
"Ok, I'm going to make breakfast Grace!"
Harry walks into the other room and all I can think about is how much I love him. I feel like we have a real connection! I loose myself every time I look into those deep green eyes.
"Grace..."
Uh oh, I walk into kitchen and Harry is facing the opposite direction.
"Harry, what's wrong?"
He turns around and hands me a letter trying to avoid my eyes. I slowly take the note out, knowing it's bad news. The first thing on the letter says
"Dear Harry,"
I read the entire note and it's Natalie's funeral invitation. I look up into those gorgeous green eyes
"We can do this together Harry."
"Grace, I love y.."
He stops mid sentence and looks away.
"Im sorry,"
He brings me into a hug, does he really love me?
(Part 2)
I slip on my short black dress, curl my long brown hair, and step into my black heels. I glance up at the mirror, checking my make up. I know I'm just going to cry it off.
"Are you ready to leave Harry?"
"I guess so."
I take his hand and give it a light squeeze
"Together, remember?"
He nods. We go outside and Harry opens the car door for me. As soon as Harry gets back into the car we resume holding hands. We both sit in silence the entire way there. We pull up to the church and Harry starts squeezing my hand, really hard.
"It's ok, Harry..."
I look over at him and he is trying so hard not to cry. I lean over and plant a kiss on his cheek. A single tear rolls down his face and he closes his eyes. He lets go of my hand, gets out of the car, and helps me out.
"I'm sorry Harry, I was just trying to make you feel better,"
"I know Grace, you always make me feel better,"
"I do?"
"That's what best friends are for, right?"
There's that word again, friends. I wish I could just jump into his arms and kiss him. We walk up to the church doors and the man blocks us from going in.
"Invitations?"
Harry frantically looks at me
"ummm, let me check."
He searches around in his pocket and pulls out a crumpled up piece of paper.
"Here you go sir,"
"ok, you can go in now."
Harry takes my hand and we start walking in
"Hey! hold on!"
The man steps in front of me, separating us.
"Where's your invitation?"
I start to panic
"She's with me,"
Harry pushes past the man to get to me.
"I'm sorry, you can't go in without an invitation"
I look up to Harry and frown.
"Go without me,"
"No, I need you Grace. Together..."
I shake my head
"I'll wait in the car Harry."
I start to walk off, but Harry grabs my arm. I turn and we lock eyes
"Natalie would want you there,"
as he pulls away our fingertips graze each other. I watch him walk into the church without me, while I stand completely still and alone in the middle of the parking lot.
