Driving back to my home, my mind was racing. How the hell did that date go in Harry's mind? Would Jackson end up okay? How was Lola holding up at the house?
I couldn't help but be concerned. All and all, this was a far more event packed night than i usually had.
The glare of the street lights made my eyes hurt, so I sped up a little more.
Before i knew it, I pulled into our small driveway, unbuckling my seatbelt.
"C'mon, c'mon," I jiggled it, trying to let myself free and get to my friend.
I guess I didn't have to though, because Lola ran out from the front door and sat in my car, a sad, hiccuping mess.
"Aw, Lols, it'll be fine babe," I cooed, trying my best to soothe her.
"J-just... Just drive please," she weakly grabbed onto my wrist, guiding it to the wheel.
I nodded and went into reverse, offering her some water.
"No, that's okay, just, faster please," she said quietly.
I really didn't know how to respond, I had never seen my friend like this before.
"Concussion," she said shakily.
"Huh?" I looked over, seeing more tears falling down her face.
"Jacky, he... He has a mild concussion. And he broke his leg. And his wrist."
I began to panic as silence took over the car for several minutes, not sure how to handle this, but I luckily pulled into the hospital's parking lot.
"Building C," lola sighed.
I swerved into a spot closest to the building and stepped out, seeing Lola move quickly towards the doors.
Lugging my purse, I ran behind her, panting.
As soon as we got to the counter inside, I sat at a waiting seat, letting Lola do all the talking to the receptionist.
Looking at this month's Cosmopolitan laying on the table, I picked it up and flipped to the first page.
"Hey," Lola said above me. I looked up.
"What are you doing? You've known Jackson for a long time too. Well a few years. C'mon. He'd want to see you," she managed to get out and rubbed tears from her eyes.
I smiled and stood up, trailing behind her quick steps.
I really didn't know what to expect, and I was honestly scared.
What was it going to be like? As we approached the door... I knew I was about to find out.
Walking in, I saw her parents sleeping in the chairs, and a nurse standing by.
Lola began bawling even more, seeing him sleep.
It woke up her parents and they stood up, hugging Lola tightly.
I stood to the side, only observing Jackson's limp body.
As her parents continued the trend of tears, Jackson woke up.
At this point Lola was in hysterics.
"Jacky boy!" She said, followed by a bunch of jumbled words no one could make out.
He gave a small smile before becoming somewhat tired again, laying his head back down.
"No no no! Jacky! C'mon don't do this!" Lola yelled, grabbing him.
I went up to her and coaxed her, calming her down.
"Shhh," I whispered timidly, trying to get her to be quiet.
"Sit down in those chairs. Rest, Lol. C'mon. Rest, and let him rest okay?"
She shook her head no, and cried into my shoulder.
"No, you have to. I'm making you. Sit," I nudged her and she sank into a chair.
Jackson opened his eyes slowly, looking at me.
"Hey buddy," I said softly, trying not to startle him.
He did his same weak smile.
"Hi Mads."
I knelt next to him and grabbed his hand, rubbing it smoothly.
"Thanks for calming Lola down. I'll.... Be okay... I just don't think she knows that..."
I giggled at him and nodded with droopy eyes.
"She just loves you, that's all. She doesn't like to see you hurt."
The clock read 2 AM. Jesus, was i tired.
"Speaking of hurting, can you get the nurse? My leg is starting to ache again," he said sheepishly.
I ran my hand through his blond hair, laughing softly, "Of course i can bud. I'm going to get going if that's alright with you. Just keep doing what you're doing and you'll be out of here and back at home in no-time. Make sure to turn up the charm on the nurses like Lola and I taught you."
He winked at me and smiled.
"Just like that! And before you know it, you'll be outta here, your casts will be off, and this whole thing will be history my friend."
I stood up and began my search for the nearest nurse, when Jackson stopped me.
"Wait," he said quietly.
I turned and looked at him, waiting for a reply.
"Thanks for doing this. It means a lot Madison," he then motioned me to come back.
I leaned down next to him and he gave my cheek a delicate kiss and smiled.
I crouched down and smiled at him, "Out of all the boys I've ever met Jackson," I whispered, "You are the most classy and sweet. Get some rest and ill find a nurse, yeah? Be good. I'll come by to visit tomorrow if i can."
He nodded at me with his same goofy smile as i walked through the door, looking for a nurse.
"Excuse me!" I said as i saw one, startling her. She was pretty. She looked young, maybe two years older than me, and she was a semi-tall brunette.
"Yes?"
"Could you go to room C62? The patient's leg is aching," I explained, searching for a name tag. Avery was her name.
She laughed at me and I was puzzled.
I must've given her a strange look because she apologized, "Sorry! I'm only an assistant though. I'm mirroring nurses until i actually land a job.... I'll find someone though. Thanks for telling me." She then ran off and I walked towards the nearest exit forgetting where I had parked.
It was already 2:30 AM. Which meant when I got home, and finally slept, it would be 3:30.
Good thing i didn't have any summer study courses tomorrow.
But... I did have work at 1:00.
I would be fine. And after 6;00 I could visit Jackson.
The glare of the street lights made my sight hazy, becoming more and more sleepy.
I kept on driving though, counting down the seconds before i could slip into those cozy sheets in my bed awaiting me at home...
