Chapter 14: Decisions, Decisions
Tyree was wrong. So wrong. He was in the cafeteria that Monday afternoon for lunch when Dean Lattimore himself approached him and Epiphany at their table.
“I need to see you two in my office at two p.m.,” Lorenzo said as he stared at Epiphany.
“For what, might I ask?” Tyree asked with an attitude.
“The situation that happened Saturday night. I was told it involved you tow and I wanted to speak to both of you about it.”
Epiphany looked at Lorenzo and walked off without a word.
“We’ll see you at two!” Tyree said.
“So somebody did rat us out!”
“It probably was Sophia. She looked like the type that would rat on people in kindergarten for eating crayons and shit like that. But when we go to see Lorenzo, let me do all the talking!” Tyree said.
Epiphany got up and stood in line to get a few slices of pizza. Tyree was right behind her, rambling on.
“I’m not going to his office, Tyree. I refuse.”
“E, what if he decides to kick you out of school for not showing up?”
“Then I guess that’s what will happen. I have to keep my distance from that man.”
“Well maybe you need to transfer schools because there is no way you can avoid that man.” Epiphany gave him a nasty look. “Okay, scratch that. I won’t say anything else about it. But I know that I am going.”
“So your partner in crime decided not to come, huh?” Lorenzo asked Tyree later on that afternoon. Tyree was looking around the office at the art work because he had never been in that office a day in his life.
“Yeah, she opted out this visit,” Tyree said. He was ready for ready was about to come his way.
“Well, do you think you could call her because she needs to be here. I need her here.
Tyree gave Lorenzo the screw face and pulled out his cell phone. Before he could get to her contact information, Epiphany came walking in the door. She was dressed in a gray pantsuit with a white button up blouse and a yellow neck tie. She had the look of business on her face.
“I hope this is really quick because I have a plane to catch to New York City later today,” Epiphany said as she so gracefully sat down.
“Oh, trust me, it is Miss Wingate. Okay. I am sure you two are both well aware of the food fight that occurred on Saturday evening. Well, I was informed by a fellow student that you two had something to do with it. As a result of this, our cafeteria staff had to stay behind until three a.m. cleaning up the mess that was made. Not to mention the goal post was broken as a result of this fiasco. It is going to cost a pretty penny to replace it, so with that being said, will either one of you be man or woman enough to confess to this?”
Tyree and Epiphany were both silent for a moment. Tyree was never the one to punk out, contrary to popular belief, so he decided to man up and confess.
“It was me,” Tyree said. “I started the entire food fight. Damn. I can’t believe I’m doing this,” he mumbled under his breath.
