Chapter 9: The Homecoming of Secrets
Dream had a hard time waking Calvin up. And when he did finally wake up, he looked at Dream like he was a complete stranger.
“Oh, shit! Where am I?” Calvin sat up quickly and looked around
“Um. My apartment.”
“Oh, yeah. What time is it anyway?”
“Almost noon.”
“Aww man! I gotta get up and go help my girl with coronation.” Calvin hopped up from where he lay and put his shoes on.
“You should have told me you needed to get up. I would’ve woken you up in time.”
“It’s cool. I have just enough time to go home and change. Thanks for last night.” Calvin grabbed his car keys and was out the door just as quick as he had woken up. Thanks for last night? Dream thought, but actually thought nothing of it!
Sophia was a mess. Tears ran down her face, even though she tried not to let it ruin her make-up. She blotted her eyes with a Kleenex, but was too emotional to even care.
“Come on, Sophia. I’m tired of doing your make up over and over again,” said Tami, her best friend.
“I can’t help it. I’m just soo happy right now that I can’t control myself. And where is Calvin?! He said he would be here by one.” Sophia burst into sobs once again as Calvin walked through the dressing room door.
“I’m so sorry I’m late, babe! I overslept!” Calvin said as he walked over to her and leaned in for a kiss.
“Fix this,” Tami said as she stepped aside to let Calvin calm Sophia down.
“What’s wrong, baby?!” Calvin asked. “Is it because I’m late?”
“Hell, no. I’m just … so overjoyed because I never thought I would be here!” More tears and sobs. Calvin grabbed more tissue from the box and handed them to Sophia. The one she had was soaked into a ball in her hand.
“I need water. Bottled water. Fiji as a matter of fact,” Sophia demanded.
“Whatever you need! Today is your day, Miss Newman Campbell University,” Calvin said, as he walked out in search of the nearest store that sold Fiji water. All for his little diva.
“I can’t believe you have me going to this shit,” Epiphany said as she sipped on her cup of Starbucks coffee and relaxed on Dream’s couch.
“And I can’t believe you brought Starbucks in here, Don’t you know only Java One products are allowed in this house,” Dream teased.
“Boy…Please! Your stuff is a’ight, but I have to have my Starbucks!” Epiphany smiled and took another sip.
Tyree came from the bathroom buttoning up his shirt and straightening his bow tie.
“I meant to ask you guys: what all are we attending this week for homecoming? I already got my tickets for the step show and the comedy show as well as the concert.”
“It’s enough that you guys are dragging me to coronation, but the step show?” Epiphany shook her head. “No, ma’am.”
“Come on, E. At least the step show!” Tyree whined to her.
“I’ve never been to a step show since I started at this school,” Dream said.
“Well, I know one thing. Y’all better be at the Fashion Show on Thursday night, Extravagance will be in the building!” Tyree said.
