I knew something was wrong. I was standing in a field of flowers and the sun was shining down on me, I smiled to myself and twirled around. I felt the swish of fabric on me and looked down, pulling on the dress that was wrapped around me. The dress was beautiful. It flowed straight to the floor and formed a puddle around my feet. The straps felt like they crisscrossed on my back and the front was heart shaped. It was pure silk flowing over me.
I walked and had to pick the dress up to even move as much as I wanted to.
“Esmerelda.” I heard a woman say. I looked up to see a woman also dressed in white, but she had sleeved and a square neckline. She was definitely beautiful. Her red hair fanned down her back in beautiful waves and she immediately reminded me of my gran. My gran was that beautiful with the same loving and curious gray eyes.
“Grams?” I asked the figure in front of me. She nodded. I felt tears clog my throat and flash before my eyes.
“Where are you grams? Where am I?” I ask her.
“You are in the spirit world. You are not dead, though you are not alive either. I came down here to help you figure out where you wanted to be right now.” She answers and moves closer. I stand in front of her with tears sliding down my face. I felt her wipe one away.
“Grams I don’t wanna stay here. I wanna go back.” I whine softly.
“I know.” She nods. I choke a little and fall into her arms.
“How do I get back grams? He’s waiting for me.” I tell her. She pulls back and looks me straight in the eyes.
“Who is waiting for you darling?” she asks. I blush.
“Thor, I was with him when I got here… Oh grams! I’m being rude, I’m sorry!” I gasp as I remember it was Thor’s fathers fault for the death of her and her son.
“It’s alright. I’m fine with my death darling. Now, tell me about this Thor man.” She says and begins to walk. I follow her.
“He’s an amazing man grams. He’s smart and funny and loving and has a smile that just makes you all happy and gooey. He’s also a pain and arrogant and sometimes I just wanna slap him when he smiles like he holds all the answers to the universe!” I tell her. I knew she would laugh at the way I described him and she did. She even touched my hair.
“He sounds just like any royal.” Grams says. I nod.
“How’s Christian and Isabelle and mom and dad and gramps?” I ask her. I really missed them.
“Christian, Isabelle, and mom will see you one day. Gramps has been watching over you each and every day, but I don’t know about your father. I have not seen him.” Grams says, I can see the pain in her eyes of knowing her little boy was missing. I felt the same familiar pang.
“Grams, I have to know what’s happening to me.” I tell her.
“Of course. Darling in time you will find out what is going on with you, but right now you only have time for one thing.” She says motioning me to hurry up.
“What?” I ask her.
“Are you coming with me or leaving?” Grams says. I’m just about to tell her I’m coming with her when I remember what that entailed.
“I’ll die if I do that Grams.” I remind her. She nods and I pull away. “I’m sorry Grams, but I can’t do that.”
“I know. I love you Mezzy.” Grams says and comes and kisses my cheek.
“I love you Grams.” I whisper as a tear slides down my face. I watch her walk towards white gates and they pulled open for her. She walked in there and everything turned really bright. I turned my head away and then walked over to the field of flowers. I didn’t feel any different, except for that stupid tugging on my right side.
