A LITTLE INSIGHT INTO THOR'S BRAIN
I watched as the only girl, the only woman I loved ran away. The last time she left, through those gates I thought she was dead, but this time she was alive. What did that say about me?
"No you don't if you did you would've believed me." Was the last thing she said. As she'd left. That was thirty minutes ago. Now the weather was dark and cold and rain fell like the tears that fell from my eyes. No one could see me and say that I looked ok, no one could see the way I stood staring at the gates hoping it would open and she'd come rushing back and think that I looked strong.
I didn't feel strong... I felt weak and lonely and I missed Esmerelda terribly. She was wrong I did love her, and it was because I loved her that I kept her from commiting treachery. Sefrina was a common guest, a woman everyone had taken a liking to. She was a strong warrior and a beautiful woman. She kept men on their toes for a dance and even for a fight.
"Thor?" I heard someone say behind me. It was gentle and soothing and I turned around to yell at the person to go away, but it stayed in my throat. Standing a few feet ahead of me was my mother all draped in blue and gold silk with her beautiful blonde curls piled atop her head. She smiled in her own way and held out a hand to me.
"Mother I'm in no fit state to be around." I told her. She looked up at the sky and then down at me.
"My boy you are in the perfect state for me to be around. Come on. I want to talk to you." Again she held out her hand. This time I grabbed it and she began to walk up the stairs, I following in her footsteps.
"If I'm correct Esmerelda has left the realm again?" Mother asked.
"Yes, she left." I said. She smiled up at me, giving my hand a gentle squeeze.
"Thor what did you do?" I looked at her, shocked.
"What do you mean mother? I did nothing." I told her.
"That was probably your fall."
"I don't understand." I told her. I truly did not understand. What had I done to her?
"You see Esmerelda watched her family burn. She ran to make sure she survived only for you to bring her back her. She fell in love with you again and the biggest thanks she got was for you to tell her you didn't believe her. Esmerelda is a strong woman, but every strong woman has a weak spot and you happen to be hers. Do not think that I haven't noticed how her emotions are tied to her powers and you've brung the strongest emotions out and helped her control them. The only thing Esmerelda fears is losing you." Mother said. We'd just reached the landing and I was staring at her a little helpless.
"She left. She said she loved me and she left." I pointed out. She nodded.
"She did." I was happy she admitted that, but lost that happiness when she said, "but you said you loved her after you told her you didn't believe her. She thought she was in a broken relationship."
"Well what do you expect me to do mother? I can't exactly go and talk to her can I? She just left!" I pointed out.
"Well you have two choices son," Father appeared at mothers shoulder, "either get out of here and find Esmerelda or go inside and choose another woman to rule by your side. Either way you gotta go."
"Father..." I began, but he held his hand up.
"Follow your heart instead of your pride and you'll live in a world of happiness." He smiled at mom as he said this. I bowed and walked away. I knew what I had to do for my realm, for my kingdom. I knew what I had to do even if I didn't want to.
