~Cinder’s POV~

We’ve been flying for Lord knows how long. Hours maybe? I’m not even sure anymore. After the School went down in flames, we flew as far away as possible, not wanting to risk the fact that they could send Erasers after us (though I doubt anyone survived that explosion. Still, I don’t want to take the risk).

The hunger was getting to us and it was getting more and more difficult to stay air born. Every few moments, I’d look back at the others to make sure they haven’t fallen out of the sky yet. Hail was still keeping a grip on Solstice’s hand. She was having difficulty trying to stay up in the air. It was about afternoon after all, the sun’s rays must be killing her. Not just her, but Chai was also having a difficult time. She wasn’t one of the best flyers to begin with.

I looked over to Specter, wondering if he’s found a place to rest yet. With nothing really said, I looked back down and noticed a river running to a waterfall and into a, yes! A nice and secluded lake.

“Guys, dive bomb down below!” I yelled to the others. They looked at me, puzzled for a moment, until they looked down and smiles were plastered on their faces. All of a sudden, it turned into a race of who can land in the water first. Obvious, I double checked the area, checking to see if there were any people that could, oh I don’t know, freak out about flying bird kids dive bombing a lake.

Once I knew that the area was all good, I continued racing the others. Next thing I know, there are a few splashes and then, ice cold water.

It was fun; we swam like little kids without a care in the world. For a moment, we all forgot why we were looking for a rest stop . . . we needed food and bad.

Once we were out of the water, we sat in the sun, drying our wings. Solstice was sitting not too far off under the shade of a giant oak tree. Feeling that pang of worry we all got when one of us were in distress, I walked over and crouched down in front of her. She still had her blindfold on, but she could tell I was there.

“You ok hun?”

“Oh yea, just peachy. What do you think? I’m tired of this! I’m tired of not being able to see in the day light and if I even attempt to open my eyes when the sun is out, it’s . . . its excruciating!” all of her pain and suffering poured out of her. She never complained of pain, but I guess that at some point, you’ll just burst. I noticed tears passing from under the blind fold. Hail walked over, sensing her distress and I saw it better for him to talk to her instead of me. They’ve always been close. They shared their pain. Even though I’m the leader here and I’m the one who’s supposed to deal with this kind of drama . . . there comes a time where it’s just best to back off and let others take over. Besides, Hail will probably calm her down quicker than I ever would. Before I got up to leave and check on the others, I nodded to Hail and smiled.

“Good luck, she’s extra moody today,” I whispered.

“I heard that!” she sneered, staring straight at me. I snickered and walked off to the others.

“Hey guys, I think it’s time we find some food ‘cause I’m starved,” I said while rubbing my empty tummy.

“I sensed some fish swimming around in the deeper parts of the lake and further ahead in the river, I’ll go catch a few,” offered Patch. I smiled and nodded.
