They were both waiting for a sound, any sound really. Shadows cascaded and created an atmosphere of undulating ink around them. They hesistated, held their breath for long intervals, and whispered at the lowest possible key in order to not miss what they were waiting for.

No one told them to wait, they just knew the time to wait was now.

They snuggled in close together trying to comfort one another when comfort was too far to reach.
It almost seemed as if the ocean had swallowed them, the sound was overwhelming in the silence. Nature has a way of talking when no one else will. The penetrating darkness stirred, a slow electric charge kindled along their skin.
This.
This is what they were waiting for.

Pressure seemed to cave in all around them, sounds coalesced onto their senses and the ocean roared.

The darkness swirled and their eyes began to open, and a whirlwind raced towards their clasped hands. It pulled them apart, she lost him. He lost her. The wait was over and it had begun.

She didn't know why her world had changed and her hand spasmed as it craved his hand for security. He spun away and traveled without intention. The pull of gravity was intense, and the pressure immense.

Light seemed to bleed into his eyesight, it was overwhelming and daunting. The air became brisk, a strong contrast to the affectionate warmth of her hand. He gasped for the first time, and arctic air pierced his lungs.

He was scared, and a wail overcame the lock on his silence.

From a unfathomable distance she instinctively knew that he was alone. She barely had a chance to think, when the pressure crashed down near her then on her.

Her skin prickled and she gave in. Maybe this way she could hold his hand again, they could be alone together. Foreign sounds grew in decibal with every nerve ending on fire. The light, it bathed her in once forceful free fall.

They had been waiting for so long, and now. Now they were born.
