Prologue
[Des’s POV]
“Agent Styles, how is it looking?”
My ear piece was securely lodged in my ear as I heard Charles, the boss, check up on me. I rolled my eyes and silently cursed to myself as I looked through my binoculars.
“It’d be going fine if you’d let me be Charlie…” I said tersely.
“Alright, alright. Des, just be safe. You have to get back the jewel and get out in one piece. We don’t know what’s in there. Just who-”
“Got it.” I went back to looking in my binoculars and saw the jewel in a glass case. Sadly it didn’t belong there but back at HQ so we could keep it safe from the bad guys. I was hoping to be in and out and back home to Anne and Harry before morning. I knew what had to be done and I was determined to get it done as quickly as possible.
The Forever Diamond is the most priceless artifact in the UK and if I can get this, let’s just say any other mission will be a piece of pie.
I shoved the binoculars back into my pocket and slid down the rooftop I was sitting on. With the most precocious timing, I jumped from rooftop to rooftop until I finally got to the mansion where the diamond was being held. At first I whipped out my GPS, because before it was stolen we got some dust off the diamond, and discovered I was right above it.
“Well this job gets easier and easier every day,” I mumbled to myself. I reached into my pocket and pulled out the laser pen I kept; in this case it was going to be really helpful in cutting open the glass roof.
Before I could barely begin to laser through the glass, I heard a gunshot from behind me. I immediately stood up and whipped around pulling my revolver out with me, but no one was there. Then I heard another gunshot from behind me, but this time there was cracking with it. I looked down and he was there with a ridiculous smirk and his henchmen.
I went to run off the building, but before I could even take off, the glass beneath my feet collapsed and I was falling through the ceiling and landing with a thud. I fluttered open my eyes and saw myself looking at three pairs of feet.
“Des.” The voice sent shivers down my spine as I was manhandled by what I assumed to be the morons he refers to as his security.
“Simon,” As I said bitterly.
“Tut tut, I believe that is Agent Cowell to you.”
I scoffed and spat at his shoes. “You’re no agent. You’re a disgrace.” I’m assuming my cheeky comment got the best of him when I felt a throbbing feeling on the side of my face.
Simon flexed his hand and smirked at me with an evil glint in his eyes. “So Des, how does it feel to be upstaged by me again?”
Even in this horrendous predicament, I turned a light pink. I refused to look him in the eye at this point because as much as I hated to admit it, Simon was right. He had stolen the Forever Diamond right from under me and now he had me at his disposal.
One of the henchmen grabbed my face and forced me to look at Simon. His eyes seemed to be black and that alone was frightening. That and I knew that this was the end.
“Des, I’ll miss trumping you. You were always a great opponent, but I am quite tired of this game of cat and mouse. What do you propose we do?”
I remained silent as I let Simon chortle to himself. I swear the man was going insane. My eyes followed his hand as he reached into his coat pocket and took out his own revolver.
