Chapter 10

Bar Talk

I looked in the mirror of Elena's bathroom, hair in ponytail, pjs still on. I examined my neck, used to the process of bandaging up wounds already. "Listen, Aria, Stefan didn't mean to...," Elena began, not finishing her sentence. She was clearly unable to mention the fact that Stefan feasted on my blood. She was far too ashamed, too surprised, too hurt.

"Bite me." I finished for her and switched off the light of her bathroom, as I nonchalantly walked to her bed and sat down. Elena joined me on her bed, nervously playing with her vervain necklace. She nodded. "Yeah, I mean I should've known there was something off with him. He was acting so...different." she continued, not facing me as she spoke. “He was happier…More aggressive. He was far more forceful. Not to mention stronger.” She began to choke back some tears.

Obviously this was a touchy subject.

I walked over to her desk where my coffee mug sat. I lifted it to my lips and gladly welcomed the warm liquid. I drank the herbal tea, with the “oh-so-amazing” vervain plant added to it –thank you for that Elena.

I bit my lip and then spoke. "He seemed a lot less broody." I offered and tried to smile, hoping it would at least make her smile back. She hardly smiled. In fact, it looked more like a grimace than anything else. She nodded in agreement. "Yeah, I suppose so. But you, I mean Damon got to you, and now Stefan," she added, becoming flustered and I grabbed her mug.

I walked back over to her bed and handed the tea to her. "Thanks," she said. "You’re welcome, Lena." I sipped it before commenting on her statement. "Well… while we’re discussing it... I do find it to be extremely annoying how I'm their afternoon snack every so often,” I glared at nothing in particular. I noticed Elena tense up rather than giggle. “… but whatever happens, happens." I said, finally trying to end the grim discussion.

She looked at me, her eyes filled with immense amount of worry. "Are you sure? Because Stefan won't feel better unless he talks to you. I know for a fact he thinks you hate him." she said and I looked at her confused. "What do you mean?" I asked her.

"Damon and I have him locked up in the cellar so he won't harm anyone." she said and I looked at her appalled. "Elena, why do you sound so worried?" I asked her, not understanding why on Earth she’d agree to locking Stefan up –Especially since I am certain it was Damon’s idea.

"Aria, he hates himself right now. It would be best if you spoke to him. Plus it would also help him recover from this downward spiral he’s got going on." she continued and I sighed. "Fine," I mumbled and stood. "I can take you there now." Elena offered and I nodded finishing the last of my tea.

I showered and then changed. I wore my vervain necklace which Elena made me swear to never remove –which is an excellent idea considering these last few events. She said even if I drink the tea and bathed in vervain, wearing the necklace couldn't hurt.

"Ready, El," I started to say, but stopped mid-sentence. Elena was on the phone. "Yeah, we're coming over. No, she's not going to see you. She’s going to talk to Stefan." Elena said and rolled her eyes.

I joined her and grabbed my own phone. One new text message from Matt. I smiled at the message: Morning, beautiful. Meet me @ the Grill at 2.

He was my escape –a human boy who most definitely would not bite me (and have it hurt or ooze blood from my jugular artery).

I snapped my phone shut and slid it into my jean pocket as Elena waited for me. I walked over to her and she smiled. "What?" I asked her and she laughed. "You’re blushing." she stated as we got into her car and buckled our seat belts.
