All was silent in the great, wintery forests near the town of Krell, the birds had stopped singing, the river no longer rushed, and the animals were all asleep.

Nothing moved, not even time seemed to move in the darkness of twilight. At least that's how it felt to our hunter.

All his senses felt numb, his mind too focused on nothingness to comprehend the passing of time. For he had found a rare flower called a "Numbing Rose".

Numbing roses are of the most rare, and sought after flowers for their ability to calm the nerves and speed up thinking capabilities. All in all, smoking the petals of the flower causes time to feel like it's slowing down and pain become nothing.

The hunter was intoxicated by the flower's sweet smell and beautiful taste. But something caught his eye; a full-grown buck had noticed him and begun to run away.

This put a smile on the hunter's face as he sprang from his position high in the trees to chase after the deer. He jumped from tree to tree at an inhuman speed, not missing any grab, landing, or push to chase and kill this deer.

He hunted this deer not for himself, but for the starving women and children in the streets. This alone drove the hunter to push through fatigue as he ran.

By now he was above the buck, its movements had been slowed by the thick snow. The hunter smiled as he began to leap towards the buck.

But something went wrong, the effects of the flower wore off, and the hunter went sailing headfirst into a tree and fell to the ground with a thud.

A few hours later
---

A groan was all that could be heard as the hunter began to wake up.

He was disheartened when he realised what he'd just done.

Praying that no one had been watching, the hunter collected his scattered things and begun trudging back to his home.

His failure had wasted a good day of hunting, but the hunter was more worried what might happen if someone found out. He swore never to speak of this day to anyone. Somewhere deep inside himself he felt a sense of approval, like someone agreed with this.

Brushing snow out of his blue hair, the hunter walked home in silence.
