"You know you're gonna start gathering dust down there if you don't use it." Lily said to me. She was my best friend, and has been since third grade. Ever since she slept with her (now ex) boyfriend, she won't stop bothering me about it.
"Lil, I told you already. I'm not sleeping with someone if I don't love him." I said for the billionth time. I rolled my eyes at her. I shoved a fry in my mouth. We were at a Whataburger. "I don't want to talk about this. You know I hate the subject."
"Oh, come on, Ronnie! You can't avoid the subject forever!" She pleaded. I shoved my burger into my mouth refusing to talk. She waited impatiently.
"Well, why 'sex'? Why not 'making love'?" I said.
"Oh, come on. When have you ever heard of a guy who 'makes love'?" She said. She gave me an "are-you-serious?" look. I returned it with a certain little finger. She just smiled. She was used to me doing little things like that.
"I really don't mind gathering dust down there if it means I don't have to sleep with anyone." I said. She opened her mouth to respond, but shut it and pointed. I turned around, and Kevin Braxton was walking in. I immediately looked back down at my food, letting my hair fall down on my face. I've had a crush on Kevin since eighth grade.
If you knew me like Lily does, you would say the same thing as her. "Why do you still like him? You know he has a girlfriend. And let's not forget to mention he's popular." She said quietly. I just looked down at my food refusing to look up.
"Because he's too perfect." I whispered. I glanced up to see Lil roll her eyes. After a few minutes leaned in to whisper to me.
"He's gone, sug. You can look up." I looked up. He was right next to our table.
"Asshole!" I hissed. "Let's get out of here." I said, grabbing my food and throwing it away. I got into her car.
"He isn't worth it you know. Kevin."
"I know. But I just like him. Alot." I said.
"Oh, somebody's in love!" She said.
"No! I just really like him."
"Sure. That's it." She said sarcastically. I hated when she always assumed things. I hate assuming. It makes an ass out of u and me. See what I did there? The rest of the drive was silent. Lil had turned the music on and was singing every word, off-tune if I must add, and I just listened.
"Bye. See you tomorrow!" She said as I was getting out.
"Yeah. Later." I said grudgingly. I hated school. Not just school. High school. The popular people try and get to you all the time. And if you get on their bad side, you won't here the end of it. I could go on and on about it. But you'll just see tomorrow.
I walked into the house. My mom was sitting on the couch watching Supernatural. She looked over at me and smiled.
"Hey." She said. She got up and hugged me.
"Hey, Mom. Where's dad?" She sighed.
"Working late. Again." She said sadly. Nobody ever said it, but we all knew he was cheating on Mom. My mom didn't want to end it though. She keeps on thinking she can work it out with him.
"Oh. Okay." I said. I walked upstairs to my room. I heard some noises coming from my brother Felix's room. I pounded my fist on his door.
"Keep it down! I'm trying to keep dinner in my stomach!" I yelled. I walked over to my room. We had very thin walls, and my room was right next to Felix's. And they didn't shut up. I went over to my stereo. I turned it on and made it go as loud as I could without mom yelling at me. I had forgotten what song it was on. I rolled my eyes at the coincidence.
It was Push It by Salt-N-Pepa. I loved this song so much. I started dancing. I might add, I am most definitely the worst dancer on earth. But there was something about this song that made me want to shake it. Once the song ended, I turned it down some. I turned to go and take a shower. I nearly screamed.
My other best friend, Zora, was standing at the doorway. She looked like she was going to burst out laughing.
"Wow. You should go on So You Think You Can Dance." She said. She burst out laughing.
"Shut up!" I said, but I couldn't help but laugh too. After about ten minutes of laughing, we went over and sat on my bed.
Z was different than my other friends. She was nicer, and she hated talking about certain things. She started high school when she first moved here. We had every class together. We instantly became friends. Now we're in eleventh grade.
"Well, I was going to ask if you wanted to get some McDonald's with me or something, but your mom told me you already ate."
"Sorry, Lily caught me first. You can spend the night if you want though. Mom won't care." I suggested.
"I still want to ask." She said. She went downstairs to ask my mom. Her parents wouldn't care. They're always too engulfed in each other to notice Z half the time. I went to the bathroom and started the shower. I looked at myself in the mirror. I had long jet-black hair, and grey eyes. I hopped in the shower. Tomorrow was going to be a long day. It wasn't the first, but I just had a feeling. Call it intuition. Something was going to happen tomorrow.
