Let's Talk About Sex

Chapter 5

(Emma Stone as Lily ->) (A/N: This is back to Ronnie's POV)

I woke up that morning to Felix shaking me. He did this sometimes, so I wasn't that worried.

"Mmmm." I groaned.

"Veronica! Get up! Something happened to dad!" He yelled. That woke me up. I sat straight up.

"What? What happened?"

"I'm not sure, but Mom just called an ambulance and they're taking dad." He said. I looked at him. He hadn't even bothered putting a shirt on. I got out of bed. I started walking downstairs, Felix walking right behind me. I saw my mom running out the front door.

"Mom! Mom! What happened?" I yelled.

"Baby, just calm down. I am not sure. Just go to school and try not to worry, okay? Your dad is still breathing." She said, trying to keep her cool. I knew she had been crying.

"Mom, you can't just expect us to not worry!" Felix said.

"Felix Anthony Quinn! You do not back talk to me right now! I am under a lot of stress and do not want to hear it! Now get your ass dressed and ready for school, because I am not telling you anything right now! Mainly because I don't know. Now, I love you. Bye." She yelled, tears streaming down her face. She started to sob as she ran out the front door. I felt bad for her. 

"What time is it, Felix?" I said, exhausted.

"Around five." He said, running his hand through his hair. Mom had never cussed at us before. She refused to even cuss in front of us because she thought it was inappropriate. This must have been something bad.

"We may as well get dressed and ready. We won't find out until after school anyways." I said. He nodded. I went up to my room and grabbed some clothes. It was five-thirty when I was finally ready. I text Lily and told her I was going to be at school early again. I decided I should get breakfast. 

I drove to McDonald's and saw that they were closed. Well shit. I drove to a local donut place and got some donuts there. My favorite was chocolate, but glazed was good to. I ended up getting both, because I knew Lil was going to end up stealing one.

I drove up to the school. Nobody was there yet, for which I was thankful. I got out and went to my locker. I knew that Evan was going to put me through hell today.

Nobody really bothered me up to first bell.

The classes were fine. It was lunch. I saw Lily sitting over at our usual table by herself. I guess Z didn't come today. I went over and sat next to Lil.

"Hey Lil." I said. She didn't respond. She just looked the other way. Weird.

"What's up?" I asked cautiously. She just made an exasperated sound. I couldn't take it any more. Lily never ignores me.

"Lily! Tell me what is wrong?"

She turned and faced me. Her eyes were red and puffy, and her skin was splotchy. She had been crying. 

"What the hell, Ronnie? Why did you tell everybody that?"

I was baffled. "Tell everybody what?" 

"Like you don't know!"

"I seriously don't... What happened?"

"You told everyone that Zora had a fucking crush on me! She only told you! She can't even let her face be seen here because everybody is picking on her. And she won't talk to me because she thinks it is too awkward!" She said. She sniffed.

"Oh my God. I never told anyone! I didn't! You have to believe me!" I said, tears leaping to my eyes.

"Sure you didn't."

Then it hit me. "Why are you crying?" I asked.

"Because you told everyone I have AIDS! Which I don't! Yes, I may sleep around, but I don't have fucking AIDS! Now everybody is ignoring me!" She yelled.

"Holy shit! I didn't tell anyone that! I haven't even talked to anyone since yesterday!"

"You know what? Fuck. You." She said. "I hate you! I can't believe I ever thought you were my friend!" She said. She grabbed her lunch and ran off. 

"Lily, wait!" I said, tears streaming from my eyes. People were looking at me. 

"Hey, Ronnie, why don't you come sit with us? You shouldn't sit with trash like her." I heard someone say behind me. I turned around to see Willow Yates standing behind me. She put a hand on my shoulder.

"She is my friend though."

"Was, honey. She was your friend. I don't think she's very happy with you now."

"I didn't even say anything about her."

"I know you didn't say anything. But you should come sit with us." I looked behind her at the popular table. Hannah Green, who was Kevin's girlfriend, grinned at me and nodded. I got out of my seat and sat with them. A few people started whispering at their tables.

"Ronnie, you know Evan." She said, gesturing to her boyfriend. I waved. He put on the most fake smile I have seen and waved back. I could tell he wasn't happy with me sitting here. "You also know Hannah, Kevin, and Isaac." She said. 

"Yeah. Hi." I said sheepishly.

"Hey." Kevin said. I smiled at him. Then I realized I was also sitting at the same table as his girlfriend, so I looked away blushing. 

The rest of lunch was interesting. They all went away on their conversations, and even talked to me some. Why were they treating me like this?

But more important, why did Lily think I said all of that? I feel like my heart has been shattered. She has been my best friend for so many years.
