Later, Helen stopped and said, "I think it's time for a little break. Let's try a float-fruit."
"Why is it called that?" Ruby asked.
"I'll show you," Helen said. She started climbing up the tree and took a bite of a float-fruit, and she started floating down to the ground.
"That looks like fun," Meg giggled.
The Buttercups started climbing up the tree, but Hugo felt a little itch on his foot, so he stayed on the ground.
"Aren't you coming, Hugo?" Sofia asked.
"I'll go up the tree in a minute, Sofia," Hugo replied. He sat down, took off his boot and saw that his foot was a little red.
The Buttercups were having a lot of fun, and Ruby and Jade were happy that Hugo wasn't doing it with them. Hugo's foot started getting itchier, and no matter how much he scratched, his rash got worse. He knew he shouldn't be scratching an itch, so he took out his trouble-whistle and blew on it. Helen and Sofia knew that Hugo was in trouble, so they ran to the rescue.
"What's wrong, Hugo?" Sofia asked.
Before Hugo could answer, Helen said, "Oh, look at that foot."
"Is that a poison ivy leaf?" Sofia asked.
Hugo saw there was a poison ivy leaf in his left boot, and now he knew why he was so itchy. "It must've gotten into my boot," he said.
"Don't worry, young prince—I can help with this rash," Helen said.
Ruby and Jade were a little jealous that Hugo was getting more attention from Sofia and Helen. Helen took out some medicated anti-itch ointment and gently rubbed it on Hugo's rash.
"That tickles," giggled Hugo.
"Sorry," Helen chuckled. She gently wrapped Hugo's itchy foot.
"Does that feel better?" Helen asked.
"Much better," Hugo said.
"Good, but your left boot has a little poison ivy in it from that leaf," Sofia said.
"I'm afraid you can't wear these boots," Helen added.
"Well, luckily my dad told me to bring extra hiking boots," Hugo smiled.
Hugo reached into his bag and got out an extra pair of hiking boots.
"Do you think you'll be able to hike a little further?" asked Sofia.
"Well, my brother had poison ivy on his foot once, and that didn't stop him from hiking," Hugo recalled. "But I don't think I can climb that tree."
"Well, at least try a float-fruit," Jade said. She tossed Hugo a float-fruit, and Hugo went to get it when he was face to face with a skunk. The skunk had a purple stripe instead of white. Seeing Hugo, the skunk let out a purple spray. Hugo was horrified that he was skunked. Sofia saw how scared Hugo was, and she went to help him.
"Don't worry, Hugo," Sofia said. "It's okay."
Ruby and Jade giggled at the way Hugo had reacted when the skunk had sprayed him.
"You don't smell that bad," Sofia assured Hugo. "Just take a little sniff."
"Well, if you say so," Hugo said, covering his nose.
Hugo gingerly sniffed the air and then himself, and he realized that he really didn't smell bad. "Hey, I smell really good," he smiled.
"It's a sweet skunk," Sofia told him. "Do you see that purple stripe?"
"Yeah," Hugo replied.
"That's how you can tell if it's a sweet skunk," Sofia told him. "Unlike the stinky black-and-white skunk, the black-and-purple sweet skunk's spray smells beautiful, like lavender."
Ruby and Jade were a little disappointed that Hugo reallydidn't stink from being sprayedby the sweet skunk, but while Hugo was enjoying a float-fruit, they decided to pull another prank on him.
