Chapter 17

ALEX'S POV!

I watched as Ellie walked back into our apartment. I heard a slight sigh coming from Mark. My head snapped towards him and he looked at me with a straight face. I lunged at him and pinned him against the wall.

"WHAT THE HELL WAS THAT!?" I screamed in his face as he looked at me in fear. "IT'S OUR FIRST DAY HERE AND YOU HAVE TO BE AN ASSHOLE TO MY BEST FRIEND! WHAT WERE YOU THINKING?!"

"I, I- um, uh I d-don't know.." He stuttered. I went for his neck, trying to strangle him. Jack pulled me off him. I started struggling in his arms while screaming at Mark.

"YOU ASSHOLE HOW DARE YOU HURT MY BEST FRIEND! YOU TWO ARE PERFECT TOGETHER! YOU- YOU DICK!" I tried launching at him again but Jack is strong.. I glared at Mark, he just stared at me and walked away. The prick. I just layed there in Jack's arms, it's pretty comfy..

He carried me into the living room and set me down on the couch. We started talking.

"So how have you been, Alex?" He asked. I just shrugged.

"I've been fine but it's whatever, how about you?" I replied.

"Ehh I've been fine. Just staying with Mark for a little while, you know, to get away for a couple of weeks." He said shrugging. We talked for a little while about random things. I looked at my phone and realized it's been an hour. I told Jack that I'll be over later and said bye. I walked back over to Ellie and I's apartment. I saw Ellie sleeping and I went over and woke her up and she looked at me. She looked broken. I hugged her and we sat like that, her occasionally sniffling, for a minutes.

"El, hun, I'm so so sorry. I don't think he meant it. What happened before you left?" I asked her, she looked up at me.

"H-he said that w-what ever happened b-between us was 'just a fling....it's never gonna work and you know it' but I t-thought he liked me!" She sobbed. I fumed with anger but didn't let it show.

"Do you want me to talk to him?" I asked. She didn't know I almost killed him... But I would do that for her if her and Jack let me. She's my best friend so I would do anything for her.

"Please?" She looked at me, I nodded and walked over to their apartment. Mark answered the door and looked at me in fear. I rolled my eyes at him.

"Don't worry I just need to talk to you." I said with no emotion. I hate him right now.

"Okay.." He seemed skeptical but I could care less. Jack looked at us and Mark told him that me and him are going to talk and he nodded and went in another room.

"Why?" I asked.

"Why what?" He replied, I rolled my eyes.

"Don't play dumb Mark! Telling her it was just a fling. She really likes or liked you! Why would you say something like that?" He sighed, sorrow on his face.

"I- I said it because, it was true we had known each other less than a week, I mean what was I supposed to do? Tell her we would be together forever and ride off into the sunset together?" I gawk at him.

"No, but you could have said something- anything else! She has feelings for you, even after two years. Don't tell me after all this time and even before you didn't have feelings for her either.." I could feel myself calming down slightly.

Mark puts his head in his hands, "I do.. But I -I can't, I don't know what I was thinking. Alex, just seeing her earlier.. She made my heart skip a beat, I had to resist hugging her. I just...." He trailed off. I put my hand on his shoulder, and he looks up at me. "I just.. got out of a really abusive relationship... a girl she... she did something horrible and it's hard for me to love, or trust any girl... always scared that I'll get hurt again..." A single tear runs down his cheek, he quickly swipes it away.

"Mark, look at me. Ellie is nothing like that, she has never cheated on any guy she was ever with, usually it was the other way around. You can't have that fear of being hurt, because not every person is out to hurt you.. Just, try to make up with her. She really needs someone other than me right now." He takes a deep breath and nods

"I'll talk to her in the morning... I promise, to make things better."

I smiled at him and hugged him, "Thank you Mark. I'm sorry for almost killing you, heh heh..." He laughed.

"Hey it's fine, I deserved it." He chuckled. I laughed and said bye and hugged him again.

When I got home I saw Ellie asleep on the kitchen floor with a oreo falling out of her mouth.. Strange child....

"Well that plane ride must have gotten to her.." I said to myself.. I went in the kitchen got a bowl of fruit loops and sat down next to her on the floor since we haven't unpacked or made the table and chairs. I ate a few bites and face planted in the bowl falling asleep. (A/N NO SHE ISN'T GOING TO DROWN! NO FRIDGE, NO MILK, DRY CEREAL! CX)
