A huge audience of students stared in awe, as a young man, senior of the Slifer Red students, with long, straight, brown and blonde hair, claimed yet another victorious duel. This boy grinned and stood tall with pride on a huge stadium, called the Duel Arena, where his duel took place. People below the arena began to whisper to themselves; two young, senior-class girls from Obelisk Blue, the highest of the three dormitories of the school, in particular.
"That guy is a pretty cool duelist. He doesn't talk much, but he sure is cute," one girl, that had long, straight, silver hair, said to the other. The other girl, named Snow, that had short, bright blue hair, with faded red-orange tips, only stood there staring at the young man walking down from the arena. "Hey, Snow! Is he really that interesting to you?" the girl laughed.
"Yeah... He is pretty interesting. He always has been, ever since his entrance exams," Snow said with a late response, still captivated by this man. She remembered back to the year she first enrolled in the school. The first day, Snow had finished her entrance exams and passed with flying colors, and with her extra time, Snow sat on the sidelines, watching other duelists take the exams. There was one duel exam she could not take her eyes off of, and it was that same young man she just watched finish a duel. He was a skilled duelist then, which peaked her interest, but now, he was on an even higher level. She could not hold herself back anymore.
The duel he had just competed in was what his fellow students called a graduation duel. A victory over this duel meant that he would be graduating at the end of the season, or term, and leaving the school.
After leaving the Duel Arena, the boy made his way back to the Slifer Red dorm, the lowest-ranked of the three dorms at their school, Duel Academy. Snow had been following behind him and successfully entered the dorm unnoticed, it seemed. She followed him a great distance until he walked around a corner and vanished from her sight. She cautiously looked around the hall for him. Suddenly, he appeared behind her.
"Why are you following me?" he asked seriously. Snow was quickly astonished the moment she heard his voice.
"How did you-"
"I said, 'Why are you following me?'"
"Well... I was just interested in the way you dueled back there... I've always wanted to know more about you." Snow was still in shock by how he had appeared from behind her, and now, she was extremely nervous.
"My name is Shujinkō. Now, you must go. I don't want you to get caught lurking around the Slifer Red dorm. This is a male-only dorm, which you should know, because girls are sent to Obelisk Blue, by default, because the other two dorms are male-only, despite ranking on the entrance exams."
"I want to duel you!"
"Well, besides one girl. She's an exception- wait, what? You want to duel me? When?"
"Tonight?"
"Fine."
"So... it's a date, then?" Snow giggled. He walked around her, then stopped.
"Sure."
As he began to walk away, Snow said, "I'll see you at the lake near the Obelisk Blue boys dorm!" Shujinkō continued walking off, and he threw his hand in the air as if to say, "See ya there!" Snow smiled and left the building.
Shujinkō knocked on the door to his room. A boy with rusty-red, spiked hair climbed out of his bed and walked to the door. He opened the door, allowing Shujinkō to come in. As soon as he came in the room, Shujinkō grabbed his deck of cards and loaded it into his Duel Disk.
"Rusty, I'm going out tonight for a duel," Shujinkō explained. Rusty had a surprised look on his face.
"Oh, seriously? Why tonight?" Rusty wondered. Rusty's face became mischievous. "Oh, Rusty gets it! Rusty's man, Shujinkō, has a date tonight! Is Rusty right?" Rusty began to tease Shujinkō.
