"What, what are you doing here?" I asked, cursing myself for stuttering. He looked amused.
"I was waiting for you," he answered. That startled me. If this is a simulation.
"This isn't a simulation, if that's what you were thinking. It was, wasn't it? You fell, and woke up. That's all," he answered at my unvoiced questions. To be truthful, that was creepy. But I nodded.
He gestured his head towards the second chair, indicating for me to sit. I did. The chair was soft and leather with engraved handles, quite fancy for an underground cavern. But I guess I shouldn't judge.
"Why am I here?" I asked Cole.
"I'm saving you," Cole answered with a serious face.
"Saving me?" I snorted. "Weren't you the one that gave me over to the scientists on the boat?"
"Liz-"
"If it wasn't for you I wouldn't be here!" I exclaimed, cutting across his speech.
"Lizzie, listen to me."
"Why should I?" I questioned. "And don't call me Lizzie."
"Because I-" he didn't finish the sentence due to the fact that a group of men in black burst into the room, trying me and Cole up. Cole broke through the bonds, and punched two if the men in the face. He kicked and swerved and punched and soon all of the men Lay on the floor in a mass if flesh and black clothes.
Cole grabbed my hand and dragged me down the tunnel. More men emerged, as if from the walls.
I picked up a gun from one of the fallen and started shooting. Legs, arms, anything but where there was still a chance on survival.
After what seemed like a lifetime, we reached the end of the corridor. There was a padlock on it. Cole furiously pushed buttons, cursing.
A red light glowed, Cole cursed, and madmen were awakening. I kicked and punched, shot and cursed loudly.
The door slid open, and Cole looked taken aback.
"I didn't do that," Cole said.
Muskrat stood at the door, smiling.
"Hello, children!" She beamed at us.
"Mother," Cole said bitterly.
Muskrat was his mother? How is that possible. I don't understand.
That's when it hit me. The sour look on Cole's face when I mentioned Muskrat, the way he refused when that man told him to do something whilst I was in the cellar. He wasn't helping Muskrat, he was helping us by being a spy. He knew how the simulation worked, wouldn't be a surprise If he made it himself and he knew I was going to end up here. But how did I not realise this before I have no idea.
The black clothed men surrounded us and Muskrat walked over to me and Cole. He gripped my arm lightly, indicating he was there and to run on his mark. I subtly nodded, but Muskrat was to busy beaming, happy that she found me finally. If I gave up who knows what she would do to Cole. Turn him into one of me, if he isn't one already. But I doubt he is a creation, Cole has Muskrats high cheekbones and dark hair, brown eyes that have Muskrats glean to them. It's not possible, yet somehow the pieces fit. Muskrat is Cole's biological mother.
From the shock of finding that out, my knees gave way but luckily Cole gripped my arms and prevented my fall, which in Muskrat's eyes will mean that I gave up. I lift my chin and stare at her coldly.
"Ah, my son found a friend!" She beamed at Cole. "Too bad you won't be friends for long."
She gave us an evil smile and snapped her fingers. The black clothed men lifted me and Cole and carried us into the bug dome room into which I landed. A helicopter stood in the middle, and I was thrown inside one room, and Cole inside the other.
I felt the helicopter rise off the ground. We flew outside of the small hole. A sea of green was visible through the small window, the light blue sky above and the occasional gust of wind sent us into turbulence.
We were brought drinks and snacks; I was wary of drinking or eating anything but I was so thirsty I took a sip of the water. It had a strange green tint, but I didn't care because the glass fell from my grasp and a loud sound echoed off the glass walls of my prison. Everything went red and a needle was being injected into my veins, tinting my body a blue shade. Everything became black.
"Send her into the reproducing room," and then I blacked out.
