“Joshy baby, come on wake up! You need to get into bed,” I heard Matty’s soothing voice pull me out of my sleep. My eyes fluttered open to show my husband in front of me, now changed into sweats and an old shirt of mine with bed hair that really looked hot on him. I smiled as he planted a light kiss on my lips then offered me his hand; I accepted pulling him into a warm embrace. “What time is it Matty?” I asked curiously as he led me to our bedroom and I slowly changed into sweats and an old t-shirt of his.
“About one in the morning, I woke up in Freya’s bed and walked to our room and couldn’t see you, so I guessed you must have fallen asleep on the sofa.” Matt answered lightly sighing as he mentioned the last part. I felt dreadful knowing he must have thought the worst.
“I’m sorry Matty, you fell asleep while I was reading Ever After and I didn’t want to disturb you but knew I wouldn’t be able to sleep without you by my side.” I replied pulling him close to my torso allowing my arms to rest lightly round his waist as I kissed his cheek receiving a smile from Matt making my heart melt.
“I know you don’t mean to Joshy, you should have woken me. I know you can’t sleep without me, so come on let’s get some sleep now. Let’s just both pretend and sleep.” Matt said kissing my temple and we walked to the bed hand in hand, I quickly climbed under the covers then pulled Matt closely to me when he climbed in. I could see Matt was so scared of what would happen, “Matty, I’ll go back to the doctors tomorrow to try and see if he can give me any more medication for insomnia or anything that could help. I know you’re worrying but don’t, I love you so so much. Please don’t leave me, you’re my ever after.” I announced and I kissed him with a lot of passion put behind it.
“I love you so much more Joshy boo, I’ll never leave you I swear on my life, you’re far too important to me. You’re my perfect disaster, how many times do I have to tell you?” Matt replied rolling his eyes at how idiotic my thought of him leaving me was. I laughed and he kissed my lips snuggling into my torso, I knew he was drifting off to sleep in my arms and I could finally feel sleep drawing in. I welcomed it and feel asleep with the love of my life in my arms.
“Daddy,” I heard Freya’s stuttering voice appear, my eyes opened and I was shocked to see her standing before me clutching onto the toy Mike and Meghan had given her six years ago as she never parted with it. “Baby, what’s wrong?” I questioned my voice sounding husky from the little sleep I had.
“I had a bad dream daddy, you and daddy broke up!” Freya told me and I could see tears falling down her cheeks. I removed Matt from my arms and Freya jumped into them. I squeezed her tight hating to see my baby girl cry as I lay back down placing her in between Matty and I but making sure not to wake him.
“Freya I promise that’ll never happy, okay? I love you and so does daddy, so so much. Shh now, don’t cry come on.” I soothed her as her snuffling stopped slowly and she pulled away kissing me on the end of my nose.
“Daddy, who is ever after about?” Freya questioned and I smiled, Matt and I both thought it could be about Freya, making her a princess but really it’s about whoever falls in love and knows they are happy wherever their lover is.
“It is about you and about everyone; everyone deserves to be loved no matter what.” I answered and Freya smiled at me making my heart melt. “Come now miss, time to get some sleep before we have to get up again.” She snuggled down into my arms and I made sure I had an arm round both Matt and Freya letting myself fall asleep again happy that Freya wasn’t scared anymore. I would always protect her from anything that could hurt or upset her; Matt would do the same any day. I knew that. He had always been the stronger one out of us two; everyone knew it except Matt he thought I was stronger after my battle but I was too weak to stop for a while, yes I got over it… no that really doesn’t make me stronger than Matt at all.
