Our eyes stayed locked.
I could see more details of his face with every step he took towards me and Hailey.
He had his hands nervously shoved in his pockets, only his thumbs poking out.
They were slightly twitching, I wanted to take them and hold them still until they stopped shaking and then I could raise them to my lips and plant a short kiss on them.
I imagined stuff like this every time Ben came into my mind.
Which was now almost never, I'd tortured myself until I could finally stop thinking about him but when I did, tears streamed down my face in waterfalls.
"Do I look ok?" I quickly asked Hailey, desperate of not looking like a complete retard.
"You look amazing but..." she picked up my pink bikini strap and snapped it, putting my shirt overtop of it. "Perfect." She smiled.
"Not as perfect as him." I said nodding towards Ben.
He looked down when I smiled at him, it was one of the first times I'd had a genuine smile since the breakup, the only other time was when I'd found out about the school.
He looked almost embarrassed when our eyes met once again.
Time slowed ultimately with each step he took.
This all stopped in the blink of an eye, literally.
I closed my eyes and pinched myself to see if this was anything near a dream; it wasn't because when I opened my eyes Ben was standing right there in front of me,
This was the first time we'd been together like this, standing right in front of each other.
When we were in a relationship it was long distance and we'd planned on meeting each other until we broke up.
The thought that this could have worked out pained my heart.
I blinked away a tear and looked back up at Ben.
It took all my power and might not to jump up and smash my face into his saying sorry for everything, wrapping my arms around him and kissing his face everywhere possible.
My self-control did its job though so none of that happened.
Instead I sat there looking extremely shell-shocked; it was still hard to believe this wasn't a dream.
I snapped the elastic around my wrist again, nothing except my wrist feeling more pain.
Up close you could really see that Ben was a lot tanner and he'd spent some time on his hair this morning just for someone to mess it up.
I wish I was that person, running my fingers through his silky hair.
He reached out for me.
With fear and excitement of what he was about to do I closed my eyes.
Was he going to slap me, or maybe wrap me up into a big, long, romantic kiss?
I wonder.
Nothing happened.
When I opened my eyes, I seen a hand in front of my face, it was a beautiful hand, his hand.
I took my feet out of the water and he helped me to my feet, I smiled and he smiled back.
I was unsure if there was going to be dirt or dust on my butt so I patted my pants with my hands to make sure I wasn't going to be embarrassed later.
I took his hand and at that moment, I had my first touch of his soft and smooth skin.
I just wanted to keep my hand there forever, but when I stood up and the assistance was over, I did pull my hand away.
