Kidnapped

Life is great. Today, after school, I meet Johnny again at the Lot, as usual. Normally, I'd either go somewhere with Dally (who oddly didn't show up for school today), or meet up and talk with my brother at the Lot. I'm calling him my brother now, because he doesn't have really any other family that he can go to, and I am proud to be related to him. He's such a sweet boy. He calls me his sister, too.

Anyway, here I am now. I see him there, and he's asleep. I sit next to him, and sigh, feeling the cool wind blow by. It's the end of January, so the sky gets darker, night falls faster, and the air is colder. Nothing I don't like though. Looking down at little Johnnycakes, I realize how much I love him as a brother. How protective of him I am. Seeing him sleep will always remind me of being with him up at that church at Windrixville. I gently stroke his hair. He stirs, slowly opening his eyes, seeing me, and immediately his face lights up.

"Hey, Johnnycakes," I whisper.

"Oh, hey, Violet." He smiles. "What's up?"

"Aw, nothing. What's up with you?" I ask.

"Nothing too. Just tired." He sits up, looking at the clouds with me. He sighs.

"Hey, I wanna tell you something," he says.

"Anything." I place my hand on his shoulder, smiling sweetly.

"Thank you. For being the way you are. And for being my sister, I think I'm mostly thanking you for that actually. I know you can't help that your dad is my dad, but I'm so thankful for it. Shoot, I'm thanking you for just having the same dad as me..." He looks around, thinking about what to say. and licks his lips.

"It's just that before, I felt like I didn't have any folks at all. I even told Pony before that even though Darry was always on his case, at least he has Soda. The Curtis's have each other, Two-bit has his mom, Steve has his family. The only person that doesn't have anyone is Dally. But he got tough and didn't care. I always did. I always wanted some family. A sibling, a cousin, anything. Having family that cares about you is different than the gang caring about you, you know?" His big dark eyes meet mine.

"Yes, I know. I'm glad to have you as a brother too."

"Yeah, even though it's only half, I just consider you as a sister, drop the half." He smiles, and his eyes look down.

"And you a full brother," I reply.

"I don't know what I'd do if anything happened to you," he says, turning serious.

"Well, don't you worry. Nothing will. I'll always be there to save you from whatever comes your way. I'll always find a way." I smile. "Don't you ever worry."

That night, I leave the lot to go home, inviting Johnny with me because his parents are mad at him for some dumb reason again. We decide to see a movie first, then go. We considered bringing our significant others (didn't know what else to call them), but Olivia was busy studying tonight, and Dally hadn't come to school. We figured it would be easier to just go ourselves. Right now, we just got out of the movie house, and are walking back to my house.

"Is Dally treating you nice?" he asks.

"Yeah, being with him is great," I say. "He's brought out more of the... fun side in me."

"Yeah, just don't get in too much trouble, ok?"

"Don't worry."

Suddenly, behind us, I hear a car. The headlights glow brighter as it gets closer. Oh no. I look over at Johnny. He notices too. It's impossible not to.

The car stops next to us, and as we walk, I hear the door slam shut.

We stop walking.

"Watch out, Johnny. Get behind me," I command.

Four Socs come up to us. I don't recognize any of them. The one in the front, with shiny blond hair and what would be a handsome face if not so cruel-looking, glares at me. Then, he smiles evilly.

"I believe you were the ones who killed that Soc, eh?" He asks, grinning.

"Where's your other friend?" A different one asks.

"None of your business," I state firmly. "Go away, or I'll make you."

The blond one chuckles, saying, "you're new, aren't you? You came here a few months back. You've been standing up for and helping those greasers. Word spread fast about a tough girl like you." He looks over at Johnny. "You know she can't save you, not always. She won't be there to save you next time."

"Yeah, I will be! And whatever," I say. Johnny is trembling next to me, not saying a word.

I spin around, trying to walk away, but quickly, I feel a hand turn me back around. He flicks out his switch, and grabs Johnny. He raises up the switch, but I'm faster, and see what he's going to try to do. I slide in front of Johnny, grabbing and catching the Soc's arm with the switchblade in it. His blade glints in the night, right above my forehead.

"Don't even try it," I growl.

"What are you gonna do?" He asks angrily.

I can already feel that something bad is going to happen. I hit the blade out of the Socs hand, and as soon as I do that, all the others come to gang up on me.

"Johnny RUN!" I scream. He looks The Socs try to chase him, but I stand in their way, and he's gone.

One tries to punch me, and I catch his fist, twisting his arm. Another one though, sweeps my legs out from under me, and I fall flat on the sidewalk. Looking around, I see that there is nobody around. There was hardly anyone in the movie house as it was, and I guess they cleared out pretty quickly. Two Socs start kicking me, and I hear another one opening the car door. The blond one lifts me up, my face bleeding, and pushes me against the wall. He kisses me hard, and tries to grab my waist. I push him back, kicking him in the gut. He stumbles back, groaning.

"Ugh! That's it, throw her in! I'm sick of her helping those greasers, and this oughta teach her boyfriend a lesson." He throws me into the arms of the two other Socs who were kicking me before. I resist, but I feel too weak and tired after they punch me on the cheek. The blond one walks around to the drivers door and goes in. The two Socs that have me drag me to the car door, while my legs are kicking. The one that had opened the door and was waiting near it helps pull me in.

Once I'm in, one pushes comes in and closes the door and locks it. I wish this was a convertible. I scramble for the other side, but the other Soc is already there, coming in and locking the door. I'm squished.

"What are you doing?" I ask.

"Kidnapping you, obviously. Greasers are so dumb," the blond one scoffs.

"Hey!" I shout. "You take that back!"

"No. Guys, knock her out," he says. Under his breath I hear him mutter, "Yeah, this oughta teach her boyfriend a lesson."

Then, those guys hit me hard in the head, and blackness.
