That night...
Dallas ran and ran. He went to that little store he robbed only a few days earlier. I have to find her. She has to be ok. I can't lose her. I let myself fall for her, and look what I did. Look what you did, Dallas. You totally screwed it up. I swear, if me and her don't end up together, I'm never falling for anyone ever again. He didn't want to apologize, but he had to. He had went home and gotten money. He was going to give the owner money, if he could get Violet back. The store was closed, but there was a note attached to the door, next to the closed sign. It read: Dallas Winston, I have your girl. I told you that you would pay, and you didn't believe me. She's alive, but not for long. I know you are reading this the night we took her. We better see you by next week Friday. If not, each day, I'll make a new scar on her body. By the time the deadline comes, she'll be so weak I'll kill her right then. Each day brings a bigger scar. Tick tock. - Eric. Below the letter was his address. What? Dallas couldn't believe it. But he had to get her back. He couldn't stand that she was paying his price. His address was of course, all the way on the other side of town. But he didn't care. He went all night, not sleeping a bit. It was kind of odd a Soc had a store near the greaser side of town, though. I guess that Socs don't have it as cushy as you think.
Johnny stayed at the Curtis house. He stayed there, but he could barely sleep. He kept worrying about his sister and felt guilty about what happened. Why did I let her do that? I should've helped her... He got angry at himself for being so scared and weak. Why couldn't she just have run with me? Why'd she have to distract them? Violet please... come back. He fell asleep at 4 in the morning, and woke up at 6. He, Dally, and Ponyboy were the only ones who really lost sleep over her.
Ponyboy was worried too. Not as worried as Johnny of course, but he was pretty worried. He had become such friends with her at the church. I know she'll be ok, though, he thought. She's tough. She's not like Dally, though. He made her stronger, but she still has that weak caring part of her in her like Johnny. She is still sensitive. She doesn't cover it up like him. They could take advantage of that.
Sodapop thought about Violet for a little bit, but he figured she would be fine. He wasn't too worried. He had time to get to know her. The whole gang got to know her. She was a part of them now. She'll be ok. I just feel bad for Dally and Johnny, Pony too. She is really nice though. Violet helped me get over Sandy. She told me that there's someone out there that is worth of my love , but for now, it will take time to get over her. She said she understood, and somehow she did. Even though she never had a boyfriend before Dal. But I could tell she got it.
Darry was worried for Violet and Dal. He couldn't believe that Dally had done that to the Soc's brother. If anyone did that to my brother, I'd be pretty pissed too. But the Soc couldn't have just...And knowing Violet, she wouldn't get mad at all. Violet was pretty chill. She is tough and determined when she needed to be, but she's very forgiving and kind too. Carefree. The perfect mix of Dally, Johnny, Pony, and Soda. The ones from the gang she knew the most. I just hope those two kids are ok. I know Violet wouldn't let anything happen to Dal, and vice versa. I can't believe he got her into that kind of trouble.
Two-bit thought about her for a little bit, but not much. She'll be fine, he thought. She could take care of herself. I still want to beat up those Socs though.
Steve thought about her the least. He just wanted to beat up the Socs that took her.
The next morning...
Johnny is the first to wake up. He thinks of what to do. There is nothing to do. Dally is going to take care of Violet. Olivia! He needs to tell her. He had been falling for her a lot. They had gone on dates for the past few weeks, but he'd never officially asked her out. He heads to the lot.
At the lot, Olivia is already there. She looks up from her journal.
"Hey, Johnnycake! I woke up early, so I figured I'd come here. I knew you'd come here too."
He smiled, and sat next to her.
"Yeah, nice to see you. So what are you drawing?" He asked.
"Oh, um nothing..." She swallows nervously, looking the other direction.
"Oh. Ok..." he pauses. He was unsure now. Did she not like him as much as he thought?
"Uh, Olivia," he continues, "We have gone on dates for the past few weeks, and, well..." he gulps. "Gosh, I don't know how to say this!" He looks up.
"Oh, I get it. I've come off too strong or something." she looked down, tears starting to form in her eyes. "You don't want to see me anymore. Got it. It's ok. It's happened before. Too clingy on the first date..." her voice starts to speed up nervously. "You know, I'm sorry. I shouldn't have done that. I made you uncomfortable and that's not a good thing to be and I, I just-"
But Johnny interrupts her sentence with a kiss. "No, I dig ya. A lot. I just want to ask you if you want to make it official. Like, go steady and be my girl?"
Her face lights up with joy. She smiles and blinks really fast. It's just so unexpected. "Johnny, I never expected that. Of course, I'd love to."
He smiles. They talk some more, and eventually Violet gets brought up. Olivia is immediately concerned. "I hope she's ok... Sometimes I worry for her. She's dating Dallas Winston. I don't know. I guess as long as she's happy. Like I am with you." She smiles at him and kisses his cheek. They end up staying at the lot for hours, and when they leave, they leave together, hand in hand.
Dallas tried running all night. He tired out. Not quickly, but now, he is so worn out. He's too far from Buck's, but he just couldn't keep running. His legs feel like they are going to melt. He spots a nearby bench. God, I don't want to lay out here like a bum, but...huh. I guess I just won't lie down. He sits down. It's about six in the morning. He had been sprinting, then slowly running, then jogging, then walking. He sits there for about two hours, thinking about Violet the whole time. I'll find you. I'll get you back. It's my fault you're in this mess. I still have a long way to go, but I'll get there. He notices that the bench he's on is for a bus stop. Then, he realizes he was crazy for running. He had brought money, and spending a little for a way there would work. He doesn't want to do things the legal way, but he can't get in trouble again, not when Violet needs him. She had brought out the best in him. He buys a bus ticket for the rest of the way.
Everyone except Dally went to the Curtis house for lunch and stays the afternoon, doing whatever they want, but also waiting for Violet to come back.
