"What will happen when we get there?" I asked quietly as we drove. The car glided so silently it aided to the tension between us.
"I'll get you in to see your family, but only for a little while. I can only cover for so long before they'll get suspicious." He replied.
"Sneaking me in is the only way?" It was a question but I spoke it as if it were an answer.
He nodded. "The only way for an outsider to stay permanently is to..."
He trailed off as if he was too nervous to continue."To?"
"Um- marry into one of the families." He spoke slowly and the words settled into my head. The way he said it suggested that he was actually considering it as an option but was worried what I would think.
"Drew that's cr-"
"I know." He cut me off. "But it would mean you and you're family would be safe ."
I was silent for a second while I processed all of it.
"You would...marry me, so my family could be safe?" I didn't know how to react to such a gesture.
"Yes. I would." He spoke softly and looked over at me with sad, tired eyes.
"I'm sorry. I can't do that. I can't let you do that."
"And I can't let you go back to a life of being isolated and in constant danger." He said firmly.
I felt my eyes water and my heart race.
"Please just- just think about it." he begged.
I looked away and tried to calm myself as all these things rushed around my head. I was terrified, to say the least.
The rest of the hours of driving were quiet and I knew both of our heads were noisy with a million thoughts.
