Guardians

After a while of sitting and staring, Jane broke the silence,

"Y...you mentioned s..something to do with guardians? Right?"

She tried to ask as calmly as she could in this situation.

"......yes"

Charlie replied simply while she felt the cold cement floor.

Jane hesitated shuffling about,

"What if that meant, us? Maybe we are 'the guardians'?"

"THAT'S STUPID!" Vicky exclaimed with anger and fright. "WHY... Why would some kids like us be guardians? And even if we are what on earth are we protecting?"

Silence filled the room, no one had any idea how to reply to that, Vicky was exactly right...

The clock hung there on the dark chipped cement wall, not making a sound, the hands still where they were before.

"Uh... Um..." Cam stuttered, "I had a dream too.... Well more like a nightmare... There wa-"

He stopped talking, Cam looked down at the ground slightly shaking, the room seemed to get colder and darkness filled the already dim room.

He sat up quickly, eyes closed everyone stared waiting for something, anything. Cam's head tilted to one side and quickly flicked open his eyes, nothing but darkness stared back at the three girls almost emanating despair. His mouth opened and a rough low voice spoke.

"You are the guardians of this world and many more to come! No one knows you, no one remembers you, you have all been erased from history, not even those who raised you will know your face!" The others watched astonished and terrified taking in every word. The voice carried on

"This is what you will be fighting for"

Gruesome images flashed through their minds, images of death, of blood spilled across the ground, demons and angels with evil looks in their eyes, ordinary humans being mauled by great beasts that no one seemed to see!

They couldn't move; frozen with fear as they saw things no one should ever have to see, it was as if it was all being burned into their minds.

Then, the last image, themselves covered with blood, who knows whether it was their own or not, but they didn't seem to care; with weapons in hand ready for another fight.

Their eyes jaded with what they had seen and faced, no innocence.

The images stopped.

Cam looked at the others, his eyes fading back to their normal brown; he took a deep breath, tears welling in his eyes and said,

"That.... That is what I saw... What I heard... We.... We have to do this... Don't we...?"

Everyone looked around at each other.

"I believe we do... For the sake of the... well... World!"

Charlie said seemed to be readying her self for what they now thought was to come.

Vicky looked at her shocked,

"No..... No...no no no no" the terror of it all was too much for her,

"I....I can't take this, i-it can't be real!'

She curled her knees to her chest, wrapped her arms around them and started to shake. Jane put an arm around her to comfort her.

"It's going to be alright I think we should be ok, I believe this... All of this is real, but we have each other even though we may not know each other well, I think it will all work out in the end..." Jane said trying to reassure everyone.

"But we can't be certain, so no matter what no man gets left behind!"

Charlie said fiercely with a slight grin creeping onto her face, it seemed like she was going to enjoy this.

"I'm going to train you to fight! All of you! I'm one of the best in the cadets so I've learnt enough to teach!" Charlie was getting more and more enthusiastic. She stood up and grinned down at the others, it worked, her attitude to it got them feeling the same, Vicky snapped out of her state, Cam started to grin too and Jane practically jumped up.

"I've always wanted to learn to fight! I did a bit of karate when I was young but I only remember one move or two" Jane said quite excitedly.

Charlie replied, "well lets test how good you are on me, you have quite a swing I can tell you that!" Everyone but Cam laughed, he was very confused until Vicky explained what happened while he was out cold.

"Ok then lets fight! No holding back on me ok! I'm stronger than I look!" Jane told Charlie, with that Cam and Vicky went to the back of the room, it seemed brighter than before, they did try the door again but it was still locked.

Charlie started off, Jane ready in defensive position. She raised her fist a went for Jane's face, she got a few good hits in, but Jane as she said was tough and smiled, spat out a bit of blood charlie moved back knowing what she was thinking if doing, Jane went for her but wasn't as quick being in flip flops, so she kicked them off while running, as she neared her she swung her leg towards Charlie aiming for her side, but missed her as Charlie ducked out of the way, Jane wasn't finished yet though she quickly spun around and raised her arm, Charlie turned towards Jane ready, her fist closely missed Charlie's face, she was quick but it was expected of her being in cadets and all.

As Charlie dodged Jane's fist she quickly reacted and elbowed her in the back as she stumbled from the miss. Vicky was looking very worried in the corner as Jane was on her hands and knees, Charlie reached out a hand to her and said "come on up ya get"

Jane got onto one knee and as she was about to stand she froze only for a second or two, Jane quickly twisted round, a crazed look in her eyes, Vicky looked at her terrified as a sick smile spread across Jane's face.

She grabbed on to Charlie's wrist quicker than she could react to what just happened, Jane pulled her arm and swung across the room into a wall, Vicky and Cam watched in disbelief "What on earth just happened" Cam whispered eyes wide in confusion, Charlie gasped for breath as she dropped to the floor, "J.. Jane?!"

Jane quickly raised her arms and there was a flash of light and two beautiful twin katanas faded into each hand, the handles black with grey tsuka wrapped around them, the sliver blades shined in the dim light.

She lowered the blades down into an attacking position and sprinted at Charlie, she stood up and just narrowly dodged the first few attacks and started to run knowing the next blade may hit.

Vicky watched in fear and hesitated before shouting "JANE! s.. St.. STOP!"

Jane stopped in her tracks, she turned to Vicky and her eyes seemed to go back to normal and her crazed smile dropped into a frown, the swords dropped from her grip and disappeared as the hit the floor, she turned to Charlie who looked scared.

Jane was confused,

"what just happened?" She asked looking almost as scared as Charlie, she had a no idea of what had just occurred and did not understand why everyone looked so terrified... Of her!

Then it hit her, all of it!

"Ja-" Vicky began but was quickly cut off.

"I.... I understand! I understand it!" She exclaimed almost shocked.

"What?" Charlie said now calming down.

"Ok I'll explain!" Jane said as she sat down.
