I look over to Mark and see that he looks mad. He probably thought we got tricked too. Then all of a sudden I hear footsteps quickly coming our way, then keys quickly opening our cell. We both stood up. I thought that we we're going to get surrounded by cops that were going to take us somewhere worse than this place, but instead we see the cop that promised to help us, coming toward us.
"You came," I said in a low surprised voice.
"Of course I came, I wasn't going to lie to you," he said nicely. "Now no time for talking," he said quickly. "Most of the cops are all distracted by big fights outside."
"Fights," Mark said.
"Yes I started them and now literally everyone is fighting someone. I also froze the cameras. It was hard, but I managed to do it," the cop said quickly. "Hurry we need to hurry up and get out."
"How are we going to get out," I asked.
"Just follow me," the cop said.
We started walking through places I don't recognize. Then we hear 2 cops talking in a room. All I heard was:
"So we are going to check the id's first thing tomorrow."
We all heard that. Me and Mark exchanged glances. Wow he was lucky. He could've been caught if he didn't decide to leave today. Then we see in red a big door that says EXIT. Wow we we're so close to escaping. Finally we we're at the door. Then the cop told us to wait here since there are cops guarding the exit of the door. He left through the door and we were waiting. I thought we were going to be caught any moment. It seemed like we we're waiting for hours, but it was only about 3 min. Then the door opens and the cop tells us to come.
"Hurry they'll be back any second," the cop said looking worried.
I knew that if he got caught helping us, he would lose his job and end up going to jail for a while so I don't blame him.
"Run," he said. "They will find out soon and hunt you down. I told them that I saw someone running toward the other way so they went to check it out. They'll be back. Ok bye gotta go and hopefully you don't end up back here anymore", the cop said with a heavy breath.
Then with that he went towards the door and left. He was so kind. Wow I still can't believe the plan worked.
"Hurry we need to be far away from this place," Mark said.
We started running. We ran and ran and ran and ran for a long long time. We did take small breaks and stopped to breathe, but we ran a couple of miles.
"We're in Dinuba. Wow I missed this place," I said.
"You lived here," Mark asked.
"Yes," I answered.
"Did you live with your parents?"
"No just my mom. How about you," I asked.
"No, I lived with my aunt, but she hated me, so I ran away," he said with a sad look.
"Really. Why", I asked feeling sad for him.
"Because she has her own children to love," he said.
"What!!! That's so mean," I told him.
"Yeah that's what she tells me," he said looking kind of angry and sad.
"Well are your cousins mean," I asked.
"Yes, they treat me like trash," he said.
"Do you have any siblings."
"Yeah, a brother, but my aunt told me that she only loved my brother because he is special. Unlike me. She loved him and not me. We were close brothers, but I ran away to Reedley when I was 10 and stayed with my grandma for 7 years. My aunt found out I was there, but she never came to apologize or visit. She didn't even let my brother visit. I knew that she was probably happy when I was out of her life. I was actually happy when I was was with my grandma. She loved me and took care of me. Then she died, so I moved in with a friend. I couldn't stay for long, so I quit school and got a job. Then I had a wrecked up apartment to live in. I could've visited my brother, but decided to let him go. I assumed that they probably moved already or something," he said with a sad face.
I saw a little tears in his eyes. Wow he had a bad childhood. I didn't want him to be sad, so I decided to change the subject.
"Well, what are we going to do now," I said worriedly.
"Don't worry, I have a friend who'll help us," he said.
"Yeah what happened when you stayed at your other friend's house," I said cautiously.
"It was his parents. This time the friend that's going to help me lives alone. Also it's not a small place. He lives in a big house, even though he hardly works. His parents are rich, so they send him money."
"Oh, thats good. Hopefully everything turns out fine," I say hoping it will.
"We need to find a pay phone so I can call him," Mark said.
3 minutes later we find one.
"Shit! I don't have any money," Mark said angrily.
Let's ask for some.
I see an old lady walking. I never thought that an old lady would be here at this time. She had glasses and was a little chubby with short gray hair. I saw her squinting her eyes. She must have a hard time seeing in the dark. I felt bad. I wanted to help, but I couldn't. Mark is probably waiting for me. Then I go up to her.
"Excuse me," I said nicley.
"Yes," she said sweetly.
"Do you have a couple of quarters I can have."
"Let me check," she said with that sweet voice again.
She goes through her purse and finds three shiny quarters.
"Here you go," she said.
"Thank you so much," I said happily.
"No problem. Take care," she said.
I felt bad for not helping her. I go to Mark and see him waiting by the the pay phone.
"Let me see," he says waiting for me to hand him the quarters.
I give him the quarters.
Then we both go in and he puts a quarter in and puts the other 2 in his pocket. Then he starts to dial his friend's number. Then after I hear him talking.
"Hey, it's me Mark," Mark said.
"Hey bro how you doing," his friend said.
"I'm good. And you."
"Good. I thought you we're in jail."
"I was, but I managed to escape," Mark said with a smile on his face.
"Damn what a badass. I bet the cops are looking for you."
"Yeah I know. Can we stay over at your house or mansion whatever it is."
"Who's we."
"Well this girl that escaped with me."
"Is she hot," he asked.
"Does that matter. So are you going to help or not."
"Yeah of course. Anything for my homie."
"Good."
"Where you at."
"Um... at Candence Ave. Next to the cigar shop."
"Ok I'll be there soon."
"Ok bye."
"Bye."
