Dad got home at exactly 6:30 pm. The second Mom heard the garage door screech open, she ran out the door that led into the garage and embraced him.
"Oh honey! You are taking a sick day tomorrow!" Mom said firmly.
"The government won't be open, there is an epidemic in that entire area." Dad laughed. "And also if I called a sick day they might fire me in fear that I had that horrible disease."Dinner was peaceful. Mom had cooked a Blue Apron meal that had been delivered to us. A delicious sesame chicken dish with asparagus. No problems, no more crazy disease alerts. And I went to bed happy and thinking that everything was going to be ok.
That night I was awoken by a loud bang at the front door. I jumped down from my loft bed and rocketed down the stairs just to see a van tear away with my family and dogs. As I ran outside, I saw my next door neighbor and friend, Anthony, race out of his front door too.
"Anthony! What in the world is going on here?!" I yelled.
"I have no idea! I woke up to find my family being kidnapped by men dressed in black, then raced out of our neighborhood in a van!" He yelled back. As Anthony and I ran into my house, I heard my phone buzz off the hook with texts and calls and face time requests. It turns out that 7 of my other friends, Chris, Cole, Gregory, Timmy, Regan, Julia, Alicia, and Jackie's family's were kidnapped too.
"How weird is that!" I said to Anthony. "It's all people in STEM, besides Cole that is!" I laughed under the stress and he laughed too. It was the craziest night of our lives.
