"Oh, god! I'm freezing..." I said, trembling. I couldn't feel my legs anymore. We were completely out in the open, in the big fields of the Vineyard Institute for girls.
Even though classes didn't start yet, if someone wanted to be in a club or in any sports activity, the try-outs were always 2 or 3 weeks before classes started, so when they officially started you could start your sport's or club's activities at the same time.
We were just wearing shorts and a v-neck polo shirt. It was 7:00 in the morning, and we weren't allowed to wear any jacket. So as you can see... Yeah, it was VERY cold outside.
"Look over there! The boys are practicing American football!" Sam said jumping beside me. "I know... They look so good with those uniforms." Hailey said now. "They are so h-" Ashley said until I interrupted her, rolling my eyes. "Okay girls, listen! We have to give our best to this practice okay? If we want to be in the team, let's give the best of us! No thinking about anything, unless its the game. Yeah that includes boys... Okay ready?" "Yeah! Let's go!" The three girls said.
"Okay, everybody listen!" Mrs. Vienna yelled. She was in charge of all the sports activities. "Line up in 10 minutes. Be sure to wear the right uniform." I looked at her flatly. Seriously? They were making us wear this in this freezing day?
"Hey! Layla! " a new voice said making me jump a little. I turned around and for my surprise Eric was standing in front of me. "Hey, Eric! What... What are you doing here?" I asked. "Oh, well you know my school is having the try-outs for the American football team..." He said simply nodding a little bit at the big group of boys behind him.
I remembered that Josh and all of his friends went to the West Oak Institute for boys. Their school and ours were like sibling schools, they belonged to the same owner Mr. Ridgeway, they had different headmasters though.
"Nice uniform." a new voice took me out of my thoughts. I looked up to see a happy Josh smiling and Eric looking me up and down. I blushed, but that quickly faded when the freezing wind started to blow again. "Oh, my gosh! I'm freezing..." I said through my teeth. "Want a hug?" Josh offered and before I could tell him no he wrapped his arms around me. "Josh... Can't... Breath..." Josh ignored me and said "Come one Eric! Join the group hug..." Eric sighed chuckling "Fine."
They hold me even tighter and I seriously needed some air. "Okay guys... Get off now!" Both of them, laughing, broke away. "Daniels ,Harries! Get back here!" Their coach yelled. "I guess we'll see you later, then." Eric said. "Bye Layla, good luck!" Josh said and both ran in the direction of their coach.
"Eric seems like a very nice guy..." Hailey said standing next to me. She made me jump. I didn't saw her there. "He obviously likes you." "I don't think so. I think he sees me as a friend, like I do... Maybe even a best friend but just that...." I said the last part more to myself than to Hailey. I know it seems stupid, but I still wished that the mysterious boy that hunted my dreams every night appeared.
Oh, who am I kidding? Maybe he doesn't even exist.
But if you dreamed with someone, you should have seen him or her before, right?
"Come on girls, they are waiting for us." Sam said and we walked where Mrs. Vienna was. "Okay ladies... I'm here to choose which girl has the power to be in the field. If you cry, scream, get hit or anything, you're out! Understood? "Yes, Mrs. Vienna" we all answered in unison.
"Good, now divide into two teams and get your butts in the field!"
"Aye, aye, Capitan...." Ashley whispered to me. I bit my tongue so I couldn't laugh so loud. It was true... Mrs. Vienna was a tough teacher and maybe a little strict, but I thought that she was a good person. Deep inside...
