Entry #6; The Day it all Changed
Ever wondered about that day in the hallway from my point of view?
Enjoy,
- Debbie xoxoI watched quietly as Sarah opened her locker, and as Charlotte walked over to her. Thanks to my mental abilities (invincibility was not my only power), I could feel that something was off with my cousin. It almost felt like she had gotten more powerful, like her aura felt stronger somehow.
Ever the curious person, I crept closer to them in hopes of overhearing their conversation.
"Even waking up feels different," Sarah said. "I keep looking at myself in the mirror to make sure nothing's changed," she continued while Charlotte nodded in understanding.
My curiosity was very much piqued now. The way she was speaking sounded so cryptic, yet Charlotte seemed to understand perfectly and that irked me. She was my cousin, I should've known more than a girl she just started talking to not even that long ago.
So I admit I might have been a bit of a stalker, but only because her parents had asked me to watch over her. Obviously I left them in the dark about some things though, like Sarah being a secret sidekick.
"Were your parents okay with everything?" Charlotte asked Sarah.
"Yeah they were pretty chill. But they were mad this morning," Sarah replied. I knew Sarah's parents—like better than she did—they were never chill. Especially not without good reason at least. And even then, it was likely an act. They acted like caring parents but I knew for a fact that seemed to have some resentment towards her lack of powers, but they hid it behind acting overprotective. They did love her, but I wondered how much, and what else they also hid from her—emotional-wise."Why?" I heard Charlotte ask.
"Cause they modified my bracelet so my powers wouldn't accidentally like go off or something. Except, I took it off last night, like I usually do," Sarah replied. I immediately froze, thinking over how to best proceed. I knew the bracelet Sarah was talking about—it was the only one that she wore.If her parents had modified it, that meant that she had gotten into the secret base below her house with it. I knew I needed to talk to Sarah ASAP, I just wasn't sure how to go about doing it. So I remainder where I was and listened to the rest of their conversation in hopes of coming up with a plan.
"Yeah, my bean bag chair was all over my room this morning," Sarah said sheepishly.
"Oh wow," Charlotte muttered with a shake of her head. Sarah shrugged her shoulders, and the conversation appeared to stall. They were saved from trying to salvage the conversation though when the next moment Henry showed up.
"Hey guys," he said to Charlotte and Sarah with a beaming smile.
"What's up?" Sarah asked him.
"Well Ms. Shapen isn't here today, so now we don't have to do our history presentation."
"Yes!" Sarah cheered before giving Charlotte a high-five. I too was internally cheering at Henry's words—Ms. Shapen was definitely not one of my favourite teachers at our school.I suddenly saw Jasper go running up to them with an excited look in his face.
"Guys!" he yelled, scaring them slightly as I saw Sarah jump a tad
"Yeah?" Henry asked him with a bored expression on his face. Somehow I wondered how they were best friends, but that was their business and not mine so I tried not to focus on it too much."Have you seen the news? Captain Man has a new sidekick!" Jasper exclaimed with a bright smile. Oh no. I thought to myself, figuring out exactly where this was going. I couldn't believe I hadn't heard anything on the news about it already.
I whipped my phone out of my pocket and quickly searched up anything about a sidekick or new superhero with Captain Man, and I was not disappointed. There were many different articles out there—all of them centred around one very grainy photo. Had I not known about Sarah, I would've thought it a fake, but now I was worried for my cousin, as I snapped my gaze back to look at her.
