Chapter 1: The Life of Link

**••**

Link and his friend Rusl sat at the shores if the Ordon Spring, tired from their trip around the Ordona Province. Link always enjoyed his conversations with Rusl, but by the tone of his voice, Link knew something serious was on Rusl's mind.

He interrupted Links thought with a strange question.

"Tell me... Do you ever feel a strange sadness as dusk falls?" Rusl looked at the distracted Link.

"No, but what do you mean Rusl?" Link asked curiously.

"They say its the only time when our world intersects with theirs..." Rusl said mysteriously.

"Are you talking about... Them?" Link referred to the ones banished from the world of light into Twilight.

"Yes. This is the only time we can feel the lingering regrets if spirits who have left our world." Link stayed quiet but listened intently.

"That is why loneliness always pervades the hour of twilight..." Rusl said after a moment of silence.

Whenever they talked about the banished ones, Link thinks of his unknown parents. How they never talked about them, of where they are, if who they are. Link thinks they are banished beings of the world if light.

They say when you are banished from this world you are sent to the world of Twilight. Once your there no one knows what happens, but in a short time, all memory of that person is forgotten. You are lucky if you happen to remember this person.

Link knows nothing of his parents so he thinks of them as banished beings. He never lingers on the thought for long.

Links thoughts were interrupted by Rusl's voice.

"But enough talk of sadness... I have a favor to ask of you Link." Rusl said sparking Links curiosity.

"I was supposed to deliver something to the royal family of Hyrule the day after tomorrow..." Link smiled as he thought of meeting the beautiful Princess Zelda.

Everyone knows about the Princess of Hyrule. She is known far and wide throughout the lands and is almost impossible to meet. You must have very great connections to the royal family to even talk to them.

"Yes, it was a task set to me by the mayor, but... Would you go in my stead?" Link just smiled answered finally.

"I'd be honored to." Link said.

"You have... Never been to Hyrule, right?" Rusl asked the now excited Link.

"No sir I haven't." Link responded.

"In the kingdom of Hyrule, there is a great castle, and around it is Castle Town, a community far more bigger than our little village." Rusl described.

"But bigger than Hyrule is the rest of the world the gods created." Rusl said.

Link has never been to the outside world. He has spent his whole life in Ordon tending to goats and helping the villagers. Rusl was the closest thing Link had to family, along with his wife and son.

"Why would you give me this task Rusl? Don't you fear that I will mess up?" Link asked.

"I feel that you should look upon the world with your own eyes instead of me telling you tales of a world you could be exploring." Rusl said while giving Link a nod of approvment.
