The ball of fire in the sky already claimed its superior dominion. Antagonist clouds fled from it as if afraid.
But to X-sol Greenfield, the sun is the antagonist that should be gone - for a while..Of course, he knows its importance to the cycle of daily life. The boy just wanted it to be momentarily cloaked in clouds. Because, for now, it presents itself as an annoying addendum to his plight. His knowledge about the sun does not end just in just that. A bookish as he is, he read that some creatures have an intense hatred and fear to the floating celestial fireball. Beings who's purpose is as dark as their preferred habitat. Just thinking of those creatures reminded him of his classmate, a fellow Mage sitting at the base of a gnarled tree, who is completely pretending - but failing - to ignore him. X-sol can feel the other's eyes on him.
Just as how old the tree the other boy is sitting at, and just as how he, is just opposite him is just how old their rivalry is, and how opposite they are.
At least, Ytton Redscar is just the one thinking about a rivalry. X-sol just prefers to ignore him sometimes. But the other young spellcaster has a way of igniting the cold coals X-sol often chooses to dampen. Instead of falling prey again, he just turned his attention to the forest behind them. Succumbing to the devices of a fool would only make you a fool too. X thought.
The two is outside Magisteria's castle at the edge of the forest. It is the sort of place their tutor always wanted to have their class - close to nature.
X-sol's legs is calling for attention to be relieve from its throbbing. His chest is swelling as he drank air. Sweat dripped from his temples down to his chin. The fiery ball from up above seems to enjoy viewing the tortured creature. If it weren't for his damn pride succumbing into a folly gamble. Then that would also makes you a fool. X realized with a sigh. Soon he will paying for the prize of their gamble. Standing unprotected under the angry sun after a long run around Magisteria's grounds three times is just the beginning. And X is aware of Ytton's contempt for him.
Fool! Fool! He berated himself. But no. He is X-sol Greenfield, son of the most well-known duke of Leferra, famed for his . . . No! Pride is the reason the archdevil fell right? X bit his lip in frustration. No. He will not let the state of his soul fall. His Father in the Highest Heavens is awaiting for him. He must prove he deserve to be with his side. Yes. He'll face whatever the consequences of his foolish gamble with the All Powerful at his side. He is everywhere, right? Just like the nature. Yes, he reassured himself.
He closed his eyes and let his spirit flow into the forest whilst mumbling arcane words. X-sol can feel the life in every plant and animals his soul touches, from every seed buried deep in the earth to the tallest trees, from the very minute crippleres to the biggest mammals. He bathed into their soothing presence and basks from the energy they provided. How wonderful, how mystifying the arts of God really is.
Ytton looked at the serene countenance of the other with disgust across his sit. An urge to punch X suddenly peered in the edges of his consciousness.
"There you two", a voice suddenly spoke which Ytton and X-sol well recognised.
"Professor Elfric", Ytton regarded "shall we begin?"
"Of course, the others are coming". Certainly they are, not just because it is now the exact time of the lesson's start but because the Professor has an unearthly keen hearing.
"Why is Mister X basking under the heat of the sun without a magical barrier? " The teacher asked curiously, tilting his head slightly. If one of the two boys were girls, they should have melted to the spot at the mere motion.
