Chapter Thirteen

     "Yeah..."
"But... You look so- so different!'
"That's what happens when you don't see someone for two years." Joe- I mean Joseph replied.
"But... Henry can't be okay with this... why didn't you tell me earlier?" I had a million questions and it was hard to limit my sentences down to just a couple.
"He's fine... I think- anyways, I thought you would figure it out eventually."
"But- why me, why would you come on a date with me?"
"Because you're beautiful and smart and amazing." I blushed and said nothing. "Don't pretend like you didn't know that I was jealous the whole time you dated Henry." He was so close now. I couldn't speak.
"I really like you Sarah. We should go out again sometime." He pressed the daffodil into my hand and intertwined his fingers with mine. I didn't know what to do. "Here's my number." I noticed there was a slip of paper hanging from a pedal. He leaned in. Joseph's lips were inches from mine. I don't know what made me do it, but I hastily took a step back. Joseph backed up too. "I'm sorry." He let go of my hand. I wanted to be mad at him for trying to kiss me just like that, but I just couldn't. He reached for my hand, brought it do his lips, and kissed it.
"Bye." and with that he turned around and walked in the other direction. I stood there, on my front porch for what seemed like ages. Finally, I turned and absentmindedly made my way up to my bedroom. Closing the door behind me, I slumped against it. I didn't mean to fall asleep, there sitting on my ash gray carpet, but it happened. Too many feelings were overwhelming me. I decided to deal with them later.

...Cayla...

     "What's wrong?"
     "Nothing."
"Something's up with you... what is it?" Joe had walked Sarah home and now Henry was driving my to my house.
"Really, it's nothing." my boyfriend replied. Somehow we had established the boyfriend girlfriend thing, I don't know how it happened exactly, but I liked it.
"You don't like him being with Sarah do you?"
"Why would I care who Sarah dates?"
"I don't see what's so bad about him."
"It's just..." He left the sentence unfinished.
"He's not so bad... after all, he is your brother."
