6:48pm. It's almost time. She called up Sonoko to ask where she is and according to her, she was near Beika Town District 5 where Poirot was located. Ran was surprised and pleased at the same time because Sonoko respected her plan. 4 minutes later, Sonoko stopped in front of the cafe and saw Ran waiting for her. "Yo Ran!" Sonoko greeted her best friend. Ran, who was wearing a cute lavender dress at that time, waved  back. Sonoko, then, signaled her driver something which probably means to leave. She locked her arms around Ran's and entered the cafe together.

As they entered the cafe, Sonoko noticed Ran's cute outfit and was amazed. She couldn't help but stare at it. "Wait, Ran." Sonoko said with a serious tone. Both of them stopped and Sonoko immediately took out her cellphone. She opened it and began to take photos of Ran and her dress. "Sonoko, stop it!" said Ran in embarrassment, then Sonoko eventually stopped a moment later. "Kawaii Ran!" Sonoko said, "I'm so gonna post this on the internet!" Ran's face flushed a scarlet color. "Don't!" she exclaimed. Both of them laughed together. Upon entering Cafe Poirot, a pretty, young waitress approached them and greeted them a warm welcome. They sat at the nearest couch with Ran sitting near the wall and Sonoko across her. When they sat down, the waitress who greeted them gave each of them a menu and stood at Sonoko's side, smiling and waiting for their orders. Ran looked at her name tag. Azusa. Her name is Azusa. Such a unique name. "I'll have a cappuccino," said Sonoko. "How about you, ma'am?" Azusa asked Ran. Ran, who didn't know what to order, said that she would also have a cappuccino too. The waitress jotted down their orders in her small pad. When she was done writting their orders, she repeated their orders, took their menu and prepared their orders. While they were waiting for their orders, the best friends were chatting and having the time of their lives, unaware of the time.

Minutes passed and the expected person still didn't appear. Sonoko checked her watch and opened her eyes really wide when she saw how much time has passed. "Oh my! It's already 7:36! Where in the world is that weirdo?!" said Sonoko. Ran didn't mind what Sonoko said and suddenly became worried. Shinichi, where are you? Ran wanted to cry, thinking that she had no hope, but then she said to herself, "I must not give up! Shinichi always comes at a perfect time. Maybe not now. Maybe later." Sonoko, seeing her friend's sad expression, pitied her and she too, was worried whether the person will come or not. A moment later, another waitress popped out and distributed their orders. Sonoko took a sip in her cappuccino. "Waaah! Yummy!" said Sonoko. Without minding, Ran bowed her head and opened her cellphone underneath the table. She texted Shinichi, asking where he is. When she sent the message, she closed her phone and looked at Sonoko, who was facing the window trying to look for the guywhile taking a sip from her cappuccino . Why, Shinichi? Why do you have to be so cruel? Sonoko faced Ran and asked if she was alright. Ran just nodded and took a sip of her cappuccino. Just then, the waitress suddenly shouted "Welcome!" while slowly opening the door of the cafe. The best friends immediately turned to see the upcoming visitor, both thinking whether it's gonna be Shinichi or not. A man probably in his mid-twenties entered the room, wearing a usual worker's attire: polo, tie, slacks. Both Sonoko and Ran sighed in disappointment. She couldn't handle it anymore. She wanted to know where Shinichi is. She once again took out her cellphone and quickly dialed Shinichi's number, placed the phone on her ear and waited for him to pick up the phone. As the phone was ringing, Ran was praying and hoping that he would pick up the phone. True enough, he did.

"Hello?"

"Shinichi! Where are you?! Why aren't you replying to any of my texts?"

"Sorry, sorry. I was charging my phone and you called me up just right after I was done chargi-"

"You're lying! You're just making excuses again!"

"No really my phone was just charged. I did receive a message but you didn't give me time to read it!"

"..."

"If you don't want to believe me, then fine. I'm hanging up."

"Wait a minute Shinichi!"

"What's your problem now?"

"... Where are you?"

"Hahaha! Right now I'm on my way to Beika Hotel with this cool girl that I just met."

"H-h-h-hotel?! Just what do you think you're doing?!"

Shinichi let out a some sort of evil laugh and hung up the phone. The conversation ended just like that. That final remark made Ran really angry. That pervert! Once I see him, I'll really do that judo throw five - no, ten times until his body hurts so bad. Sonoko probably sensed her rage and cowardly asked her, "R-Ran, are you ok-k-kay?" Ran faced her bestfriend with her mad face and Sonoko shrieked silently. "Yes! I'm fine~" said Ran with a completely big smile and a happy face as if nothing happened. Knowing Ran, Sonoko felt something dark inside her. She knew that Ran wasn't completely THAT happy and was hurt deep down inside. Sonoko sighed and told Ran to immediately drink her cappucino while it's still ok. She, along with Sonoko, drank their order together and continued chatting until it was time to go. Ran asked the waitress for the bill and immediately paid afterwards. Sonoko left a 500 Yen coin in their tip box for the great service that they provided. As they exited the cafe, Sonoko gave her money to pay for her order. "No, it's ok. It's my treat today." Ran said with a sweet yet weak smile. Sonoko knew Ran too well. She was just hiding her true feelings and Sonoko can feel that. Suddenly, Sonoko's limousine popped out. "Goodbye Ran!" she said and hugged her bestfriend. "Goodbye, Sonoko!" was Ran's response as her bestfriend was entering the car. Her driver, appearing out of nowhere, closed the door for her and disappeared once again. She lowered the window, waved and shouted at Ran, who was still standing there outside the cafe, "Goodnight!" Ran waved back and shouted the same thing back to Sonoko. She heard a door slam and an engine roar. The next thing she knew, her bestfriend was slowly fading from her sight. Ran stood there for a while and went up to her home.

Ran was slowly climbing up the steps leading to her home without her senses being with her. She's lost in thought, as if someone has hypnotized her. She sluggishly entered the house. "Tadaima..." was her weak response when she saw her father doing the same old routine. "Oh, Ran!" Kogorou immediately got his trash and put it in the trash can, thinking that he might get scolded again. "Raaan~ where's dinne-" Kogorou was cut by the expression on Ran's face. Judging by her looks, she seems to tired to cook. He said to himself that letting Ran cook is not a good suggestion, so he instead asked her, "How are you, Ran?" Ran faced her jolly-looking father and responded weakly "Not so fine. I'm sorry I can't cook dinner for you. I need to rest because I'm really tired." Kogorou, from a jolly to a serious person, completely understood his daughter and told her to get a good sleep.

"But don't you want to eat dinner first?"

"Nope. Can I skip dinner just for today?"

"Alright. "I'll just eat in Cafe Poirot downstairs."

Before he went down, he wore his coat, gave his daughter a kiss in the forehead, said good night and finally left.

When her father is gone, she sluggishly changed her clothes and brushed her teeth for she just used her remaining energy to prepare for bed. She was finally relieved when she was able to lie down in her very soft and comfortable bed. She closed her eyes and reviewed the things that had happened to her in the past.

Goodnight, huh?
