She dismissed the fact that Shinichi is going to talk to her later, but she couldn't. It kept on bothering her the whole time. Science class, Math class, literature class - her usual attentive mind seemed to wander off this day. Teachers were wondering why such a student would have such a gloomy mood. When teachers would ask her questions, either she would act as if she has woken up from a dream when in fact she isn't sleeping at all or she would just stare and wait for the teacher to answer for her. She suddenly became silent, which creeped her whole class. At lunch, when Sonoko would talk to her, she would just nod and stare in space. Even Sonoko was wondering what happened.
The bell finally rang. Ran suddenly looked up to realize that she slept through history class. Students were packing up their bags, thankful that it was finally dismissal, but she was probably the only student who wasn't thankful. She didn't want to see Shinichi. That moron! Her heart pounding, she prepared her things quickly for she had planned to hide in the girls' restroom for a while until Shinichi gives up and goes home. Taking a peep outside her classroom, she concluded that the coast is clear. She rapidly ran to the restroom and sighed with relief. Although she was in the restroom, she can hear the voices of students but she didn't hear Shinichi's. Funny how he didnt embarass me in public this time, Ran thought. Feeling confident, she stepped out of the room and suddenly popped out Kudo Shinichi. Ran gasped and hurriedly ran down the stairs as if a zombie was chasing her. Being the captain of the karate team, she was used to running without getting tired. But for some reason, she felt weaker than she expected. When she was at the school grounds, she felt his presence drawing near to her so she ran faster but Shinichi was able to catch up. He once again grabbed her arm but this time she threw a fist to him. Knowing Ran, Shinichi immediately dodged it and said to her with an angry tone, "Why are you running away from me?!" Ran, who was about to cry, said with a weak and teary-like tone, "Do you know how much I've been hurt by you?!" Her tears started to fall and she bowed her head. "Ran..." Shinichi said softly. The whole school seemed to pause: students stopped walking, the time seemed to stop, everything seemed to stop. Shinichi held her chin up to wipe her tears but as he was about to wipe it, Ran slapped his hand, turned around and walked away. "Wait, Ran!" Shinichi called out but Ran just ignored him. She just kept on walking ahead with Shinichi trailing behind her. As she was walking, her tears were still streaming down her cheeks so she wiped them and sniffed in her snot. Even through intersections and railways, Shinichi was still following her. When they were halfway near Ran's house, she decided to talk to him for he was already getting in her nerves. Ran turned around to she a really tired Shinichi, panting and all covered in sweat. "Ran... Wait!" He said with a tired tone. He catched his breath for a while and Ran, with all confidence, asked him angrily, "What the hell do you want?" Shinichi stared at her in the eyes and asked as if he was innocent, "What have I done wrong?" He can see from Ran's expression that she was getting really mad.
"What do you mean by that?! Everything you have done is wrong!"
"Huh? Like what?"
"Like insulting my dress and humiliating me in front of everybody when I was training!"
"Oh that..."
"So you do admit that you are wrong?"
"Do you know why I did those things?"
"Why?!"
Shinichi, as if he was found guilty, said, "Ran, I did all those things for you."
"So you hate me?"
Shinichi paused for a moment because he was in shock and finally admitted that it was rather the opposite. "I don't get you" was Ran's reply. He sighed in disbelief and explained to her everything: from the time she texted him about her father's client to the time when he insulted her clothes. Ran, dumbfounded and shocked at the same time, still did not understand him. "I still don't get it. You didn't even do anything to that case of the missing bird!" Shinichi disagreed and showed her an article about the missing bird. "That bird," Shinichi said, "was found yesterday at the apartment of Pete Sanzo, the animal lover."
"On the day when Naruse-san left for work, Sanzo-san unusually was absent for work because, according to him, he had flu. But this was unlikely because his family said that he was perfectly fine and they thought that he went to work for he wasn't at home the whole day. The truth is, Sanzo-san was somehow able to hack the lock and entered the house without trouble. He got the bird and placed the bird in a small cardboard box with small holes on the top. But something unexpected happened. Kozumo-san appeared out of nowhere. Thinking of an excuse, he said to the maid that he came there because Naruse-san got into an accident. He gave her an address of a hospital and a random room number to her. Sanzo-san asked for Kozumo-san's number to "report to her what happened". Being a kind and loyal servant, Kozumo-san gave him her number and immediately headed out the house.
When Sanzo-san finally got rid of her, he taped the flaps of the box, locked the door and went out too. A bit distant, he was somehow able to follow the maid to the hospital. Minutes passed by and the maid finally realized that it was a fake. He also threatened her to keep quiet or else he will kill her family. The maid obeyed. But coincidentally at that time, it was the time wherein Naruse-san usually goes home. No wonder she assumed that Kozumo-san is the killer because both the bird and the maid were missing."
Ran was silent. She didn't know what to say. But there was something in her saying 'Just forgive him.' She couldn't though, because Shinichi has done so much wrong to her.
"Ran..." Shinichi said with a soft voice. Ran didn't care anymore. She stood still until she suddenly felt a tight hug from Shinichi.
"...I love you."
Ran felt her face getting hot and her body getting "the chills". Shinichi didn't seem to want to let go of Ran. He was still hugging. 5...10 seconds have passed, still hugging. Ran was standing still because there was some unforgiveness left in her heart. Shinichi pressed his nose on Ran's head, and Ran was somehow moved. Her heart beated fast. I... love... you... Shinichi. She never knew that she was in love with Shinichi all this time. Suddenly, without thinking, she wrapped her arms around him. She wanted to let go, but it was too late. Both of them were hugging each other for a while, but the next thing she knew, he let go. Ran was relieved and at the same time she wanted more. Shinichi held her hand and walked her home.
When they arrived in front of the Detective Agency, Shinichi faced Ran once again, held her cheeks and gave her a slow and serene kiss. Again, Ran felt her face getting hot but this time, she didn't care anymore. She returned the favor by hugging Shinichi's neck and giving him a kiss too. This probably went on for like a minute or so. After that, both panted weakly, and a moment later, Shinichi held Ran's hands and asked, "Would you like to go on a date with me?" For some reason, tears fell down again on Ran's eyes and said yes. Shinichi became elated and joyous and rubbed Ran's hair. 'Is Sunday okay?" He added. Ran nodded and wiped away her tears. Shinichi checked his watch and said that he had to go. Both of them hugged once again and Shinichi gave Ran a quick kiss. She smiled and blushed at the same time. "Bye Ran!" Shinichi said. "Bye, Shinichi" was the response of Ran.
"I love you, Ran!"
"I love you, Shinichi!"
