I swear I almost screamed. "You don't mean..." She got up and hugged me tightly, her tears wetting my dirty shirt. Just then, Enrique walked in. "Umm guys? We've got company." Jess quickly lets go of me, eyes wide her body already starting to slightly tremble. Jess was having anxiety and panic attacks more lately with all of the nightmares, that only she has been having. I grab my knife that I like to call "Blade". I never go anywhere without it. I walk towards the exit of my bedroom, also grabbing a hatchet and hand it to Jess as she says "The walkers? B-b-but they-th-they can't get past the fence! Th-that's impossible!" She was shaking her head as all of our friends grabbed some sort of weapon. Jackie took the hatchet out of Jess's hands and instead gave her scissors, considering she hated killing anything with the large weapon. Too many memories was always her excuse. Sophie had a bow and arrow, with a pack of black arrows strung across her shoulders, with the pack laying on her back, and a dagger in her belt.
We all follow Enrique out of the room , ready to look out the window when I realize Jess wasn't in the group. When I look behind me she's just standing there, in a daze, with the scissors wrapped tightly in her hands, knuckles white, and her eyes wide in that unknown emotion again. I wave my hand to her motioning to follow, saying "You okay" even though it's obvious that she wasn't. Her face suddenly goes blank, and she follows me out of the room only to see everyone using their weapons against a walker. My eyes widen in surprise, and out of the corner of my eye, I see Jess bite her bottom lip before raising her hand, and runs ahead of me. I just watch frozen, as I see her hop on one of the human eating creatures back, and stick the scissors in it's neck while grabbing it's head with her bare hands and twists. And twists. And twists, before finally ripping it off, leaving me speechless. Snapping out of my daze I finally go after a zombie that was holding Sophie ready to bite her, and attack.I yanked the cover off of my knife, and stabbed the zombie in the head, making it fall to the ground, and then pull the blade of it's skull, and stick in between my belt and pants.. The walkers have been defeated once again. We all cheered, except for Jess, who was kneeling down next to the zombie I had killed. Her hand lay across his forehead, her other laying across where it's heart is supposed to be. I walked over to Jess slowly. "Jess, it's just a zombie. I know, it was a person at the time, but now it isn't. Don't get so upset." She just looks up at me and that's when I notice her tear stained cheeks, that mystery emotion laced in her eyes. "It.... He's still here." "What do you mean?" I ask. "This makes no sense, th-th-this can't be happening! No this is bad, really really really bad!" I am startled by her yell. "What is really really really bad?" I mock. She gives me a glare in return before unbuttoning his shredded shirt, and places her hand onto his cold, pale skin. I just stare at her. "Impossible." She whispers. Jackie was fed up. "WHAT'S IMPOSSIBLE?!" She finally yells, all of her frustration seeped into her words. Jess jumps, and looks at Jackie and motions for her to come. "If you think-" Jackie cuts herself off staring at her friends pleading look, before letting out a huff and trudges to Jess. Jess takes her hand off of the walker, and grabs Jaclyn's placing it back to the position hers was in and lets go. Jackie's eyes are wide, mouth agape, sputtering non-sense out of her mouth. Jess looks up at us and finally answers our silent pleading questions. "There's a heartbeat. It-He's alive."
