I walk over to "him", place my hand where Jackie's hand once was, and felt it. That's when I went crazy. "It's still alive!!! KILL IT NOW!!!" I grabbed my knife and was about to stab it, when Jess's hand grabbed it out of mine and held me back. "Don't even think about it. Don't you realize what this means?! If there's a heartbeat that means we can save him. That means he will be human once again, and he can tell us what he saw.", "What's wrong with you?! It will kill us!" I say as I viciously rip myself out her grip, only getting a flinch in response. I answer "I don't care! He is NOT human, we can NOT trust him, and we are NOT letting him stay with us! LIKE HELL!!!" She stares at me in fear, and says "You don't get it do you?" I only stare slightly out of breath from yelling. "This so called 'monster' is alive, has a heart beat. What if he saw something important? Maybe he knows more about these things then we do?! Don't you want everything back to normal!" She finishes with screaming. "Look Jessica, I get it you want everything back to normal! But that's not going to happen! So stop thinking it will! Stop thinking that your family will magically appear and be with you! They're dead! Remember!" Everyone froze, staring at me. You never mention that to Jessica. But I couldn't help it. I was so aggravated and tired out I just, blurted it. Jess stares at me, sobs starting to fill her and escape her mouth. "But your family is alive, other people are living in fear, dying, or being infected. I saw it. I saw what it could do to us. And you're going to just kill us all for being childish, for being afraid."
"We all no you are! Just admit it! Marin we are all petrified, you all have a family alive, breathing, looking for you! You have a chance. And if this is the way, then deal with it. I'm tired of you being selfish Marin. I'm tired of all of you being selfish." Her tears were running down her cheeks, as she sobs. "These things were human once too! If we can save this man!" She goes silent for a moment. "Then maybe we can save others. Maybe we can save ourselves. Did you ever think of that?" She storms down the hallway, the sound of a door slamming shut bounces off the walls, as we all just stand there, shocked.
I look over at my friends. The silence broke, when I took my knife, and threw it into the wall. tearing it off the wall, I wiped off the blood, grabbed the cover, and put it on. My friends were watching me in fear. I turned to them, then turned to the hallway leading to my bedroom. I stormed down the hallway, and I could hear Jessie crying in her room. I ran into my bedroom and slammed the door, making the RV shake lightly. I was bawling, now. I grabbed my black backpack, and put my knife in it, along with my pistol, which I rarely carry. Packing some food, water, my jeans and a black skull t-shirt I write a quick note, and said it softly to myself as I wrote it. "Do whatever you want. I don't care anymore. If anyone finds this note, do NOT come looking for me, no matter what. Goodbye...Forever... -Marin"
I grabbed my bag, opened up my window, took one last look at my bedroom, and jumped out. I landed safely on my feet, and ran to a doghouse, where I keep my pet black wolf, named "Shadow". My friends never found out about him. I called him. "Shadow! Here, boy!" Shadow immediately ran over to me, and licked my hand. I walked with him, and together, we jogged through the woods, until we came to the fence Abby and Faith had built. I crawled through a hole in the fence, with Shadow trailing behind. I took one last look at our campsite, and ran through the other half of the woods. Soon, him and I came to a stream. There were only three walkers there, and Shadow helped me kill them all. I made sure that I cut out all of their hearts with my knife, and buried the hearts. I didn't want to feel any sort of heartbeats. Grabbing an arrow from my bag, I threw it at a fish, and it stabbed right through it. Then, I set a fire, cooked the fish, and ate it. Shadow looked hungry, so I shared with him. That night, I climbed up a tree and somehow, Shadow was able to get up there, too. I looked at my cracked iphone. 12:48 AM. Snuggling up to Shadow, his black warm fur comforting, I fell asleep.
The next morning, Shadow and I got down from the tree. I sat down against it, next to Shadow. I took out my diary, and started drawing and writing in it. I was super depressed. I hugged Shadow, and then I put my head in my hands and let fresh tears seep out of my silverish blue eyes, and down my pale face. That's when I heard a familiar voice. "Marin!" Jackie ran towards me, and hugged me. My friends, including Jessie, were right behind her. I managed to speak. "W-why d-did y-you guys come looking for me?" They all bolted to me, and I noticed there distressed faces. Except for Jessie. "Why would we come looking for you?! Why would we not?!" Abby screams. "We're your friends", Jackie whispers. I shake my head and look at my blue haired friend. "I'm so sorry Jesse!" She stops fiddling with her black elbow sleeves, and looks down at me. Fear was stained onto her face, as she stares at me, before looking back at her elbow sleeves and starts to fiddle with them again. "That was very stupid." Her voice was quiet, so quiet I thought I imagined it. "You shouldn't have come out here, the walkers will find you. We should go before getting killed is our only option." She spins around after that and starts to walk from where they came from. My eyes were wide, as I watch her figure walk away, leaving us alone.
"She's still upset, you really hurt her." I hear Abby as she walks over to me, sticking out her hand. I grasp the tree, telling them that I am not going, and that they can't make me. Jackie, Faith, and Sophie help her pry me off of the tree, finally standing me up. I was bawling by this point, and Jackie pulled me into a hug, allowing me to cry on her shoulder. Enrique, Abby, Faith, and Sophie hugged me, too. I walked home, leaning against Jackie the whole way and holding hands with Soph. By the time we got back to the RV, it was dark again. I brought Shadow inside with me this time. Jessie was waiting for us, Angel, her white husky puppy was sitting on her lap, as they both sat in a chair in the small kitchen, near the counter. We all sat down on the couch. I didn't look at Jess, though. My face was buried in Jackie's shoulder, scared to see her expression. Was it sad? Anger? That unknown emotion that always swam in her brown eyes? Or just...blank?
And then it hit me. Where was it. Finally looking up, I frantically look around the room, trying to find the walker-er-human? Whatever you would call it, or him, whatever. "He's in my room!" I hear Jesse's voice shout from the Kitchen. I shout back "Good! Keep him there, please!" Sophie covers up my mouth. "Stop it!" I am startled by her tone, not expecting to hear her yell. She takes her hand off of my mouth, and I walk down the hallway, and into my room. I am exhausted. I flop onto my bed with Shadow, and fall asleep. That's when a nightmare hit me.
*During the beginning of the apocalypse, I am with my friends, and we are trying to push our way through the swarm of people, trying to get onto trains and planes. "Mom! Dad! Amelia! Where are you?!" I couldn't find my family and with the disease infecting everyone I was definitely scared. I wanted to turn around, to try and find them, but my feet kept on moving, running, and I couldn't stop. "Stop, Stop!!!!" I scream. What was happening to me??? Everything was a blur, the sounds hazy in my mind. Screaming was the only thing that I could make out in my daze like state. Pain. A pain shot through me, escalating through my body, fire consuming my throat as I claw at it, my feet still rushing to a train. That specific one. Then they appeared. My family, it was like magic. They hop onto the train, the glass doors closing, as a scream ripples through the air, It was mine. My legs felt like jello, my knees all of a sudden buckling, dragging me to the ground. I was still clawing at my throat, when a wet substance ran down my neck, and chest. I look down, only to see red. Blood. When I look up I see Amelia banging on the train doors, screaming something. "She's infected!!!!" That wasn't Amelia. I felt strong hands grab me by the waist, picking me up with ease. But I didn't know who they were. As the smoke was emitting from the train, I was carried to the edge, near the railroad tracks. "NO No NOOO!" I was shouting, but no sound was coming out. "Help me." I whisper. That's when it happened. The train moved, chugging forward as the stranger threw me into the air. Onto the tracks. I closed my eyes ready for the pain........*
I wake up in a cold sweat, screaming "NO!" and crying. Jackie woke up and ran into my room. "Marin! Are you okay? What happened?!" I just cried and she hugged me, with rivers of tears streaming down my face. "I-I h-had a nightmare!" She looked at me with worry. That's when I noticed Abby run into the room, holding a hatchet, ready to attack, and Jess leaning on the door, that stupid gray beanie laying on top of her head, staring at me with knowing eyes. Abby realizes that nothing's going to hurt me, so she lowers the large weapon, worry written across her features. "Are you okay?" She asks, slowly walking over as Jackie just keeps comforting me, rubbing my back.
"He got to her." Jessie suddenly spoke up. They both look at her in bewilderment. "What?" They ask in unison.
"It got to her... He killed her... Isn't it obvious?" I stare at her with widened eyes. "H-h-how???" I question with puzzlement.
"He's waking up....He sent you the dream.... C'mon..." She waves her hand, motioning to follow.
"What?!" I screech. He can't be waking up. He just can't. Wait... He sent me the dream? That's not possible. And even if it was how would Jess know? This wasn't the time to even think about any of this, so throwing the duvet off my frame, I stumble out of bed, still groggy from sleep.
Jess was already in her room. It was like a cubicle, she decided to have the smallest, and no one understand why. The thing was laying on her bed, his skin pale instead of rotting, and his eyebrows were furrowed as his head twisted from side to side, body shaking tremendously. All of a sudden his eyes snap open, revealing a deep colored hazel, his mouth agape, taking in a deep breath, as if it was his first time breathing after being underwater for so long.
I just couldn't get over the fact that he was here.
Awake.
