I woke up in bed the next morning beside Katy, her arm draped over my waist as she slept. She breathed so lightly. I wouldn’t have even remembered she was there if it wasn’t for the tight grip she had on my waist.

I had quietly crawled into Katy’s bed at 2am unnoticed, until around an hour later when I had apparently whacked her in the face with my elbow and woke her up. Though in my defense, I do not recall this moment. Maybe it was just Katy dreaming.

Neither of us had bothered to close the curtains last night, so the light shone directly on us both in her king sized bed, making me build up a bit of a sweat under her red linen covers. I felt my stomach rumble, meaning I was hungry, but I just didn’t have the energy right now to move out of this bed. It was so soft and warm. I was really comfy where I was, so I just turned on my side and closed my eyes in the attempt to get back to sleep.

You know that stage when you’re sleeping...well kind of sleeping, where your mind is blank and your eyes are closed, but you can still hear what’s going on around you? Well that’s the exact point I was in right now. The exact point when some rude person decided to send a loud banging sound echoing through Katy’s mansion. My eyes flashed open and I shot up in Katy’s bed faster than I have ever moved in my life. I thought it was just me imagining things, hearing things, until the banging repeated itself, but this time there was more than one bang. A row of three to be precise.

I looked at Katy and noticed that somehow she had managed to sleep through the loud thuds at her front door. I carefully removed the covers from over me and bolted out of her room, hoping I’d get to the front door quick enough to stop her from hearing any more noise and waking up. Who on this earth thinks it’s acceptable to bang that loudly on someone’s door at eight in the morning?

I’d probably got up too fast as my head began to spin as I ran down the stairs, two steps at a time. Two large shadows were cast on the other side of the door as I approached it, squinting my eyes as I did to try and unlock the door at such a stupid time in the morning. Well stupid for me anyway.

I pulled open Katy’s front door, realising that I looked absolutely terrible right now since I had just woken up. My blonde hair was everywhere, my eyes could barely open properly and my vision was so blurry that I felt like I was underwater, and the back of my pyjama shirt used sweat to stick to the skin on my back.

For the first time since I’d moved to LA, nearly two months ago, I saw the faces of the people I had grown to know as my parents. It wasn’t how I expected it to be, seeing them for the first time, they were angry. My dad’s eyes left the floor and connected with mine, he could never be mad at me, I knew that for sure.

“It’s about time,” my mom started off, “we’ve been stood here for ages.”

I’ve got to say, that wasn’t exactly the politest greeting I’ve had. I didn’t know what to say or where to look. I knew they were coming but not this early, I mean, we’d barely just told the world and they were here to kill us for what we’d done already. A black suitcase stood next to my mom, it’s handle up where she had just been pulling it along with her. I was taking that as they weren’t going to be leaving anytime soon.

“Uh- s-sorry we were sleeping.” I stuttered, giving them both a small smile to try and make things seem okay, even though I knew they were both so annoyed right now.

I opened the door a little further and stepped aside, letting them both enter Katy’s house so I could close the door behind them. I took in a deep breath, preparing myself for what was going to happen, and the fact it was just me really made me even more scared. Katy would just be peacefully sleeping still, whereas I’ll be down here feeling the wrath of these two.
