Chapter 1 - "Do you mind if I sit here?"

(Your PoV)

I was all ready. Uniform on, hair tied up, teeth brushed. I smiled at myself in the mirror. I noticed the clock in the reflection, it read 7:01am.

"Oh crap!" I whispered to myself. My first sparring lesson and I was going to be late! I was supposed to be there at 7:00am.

I checked myself in the mirror one more time, before rushing out the door and down to the stables where my horse was.

"Good morning (Y/N)." I heard the kid who worked there greet.

"Morning!" I said and walked up to my horse, (h/n<-- horse's name). I saddled him/her up and got up onto his/her back. I waved at the stable kid as (h/n) trotted out of the stables.

I hope I don't get in trouble for being late.

I got to the training grounds at 7:13am. I got off (h/n) and led him/her to where the other horses were eating hay. I ran back up to where everyone was sparring.

I thought maybe no one would notice that I was running late.

"Hey you!" Someone shouted at me. I slowly turned around and saw Captain Levi standing there with his hands on his hips and an annoyed expression on his face.

"Yes sir?" I replied, trying to sound as innocent as possible.

"Tch brat, do you really think you can get away with being late?" He questioned and stepped closer to me.

"No sir." I sighed defeated. He looked at me for a moment, studying me from head to toe.

"After this training is over, you are to clean the stables and then report to my office, understood?" He questioned. I nodded. "Tch, now go find a partner brat!" He growled at me before leaving.

Damn he was scary.

I looked around but everyone already seemed to have a sparring partner. I frowned and turned around, only to bump into someone's chest.

"Ow. Oh, I'm so sorry." I apologised and looked up to see the unfamiliar face of one of the other cadets.

He smiled, "No, I'm sorry. Are you ok?" I nodded. "Do you have a partner?" He asked me.

"No, I was late so everyone has already found a partner." I said.

"Don't worry, I don't have a partner either, I was late too! In fact I've only just arriv-" he was cut off by someone yelling angrily and stomping up behind him.

"Kirstein!!" I saw Captain Levi March up behind him with an extremely angry expression. He grabbed the cadet by the shirt and pulled him down so they were eye level. "After this session, you owe me 50 laps and spotless kitchen, understand?!" He yelled, causing a few other cadets to turn their heads.

"Yes sir." He replied. Again, Levi left.

"So your name is Kirstein?" I asked.

"Please, call me Jean." He smiled.

"I'm (Y/N)." I said.

For the rest of the training session, I sparred with Jean. Our combat skills were pretty even, I won some rounds and he won some rounds.

"Dismissed!" I heard, and felt relieved because I was tired. We had literally been training all day.

"Well, see ya round (Y/N)! I'm off to do my laps and clean the HQ kitchen." Jean laughed. I waved goodbye, and then I remembered I had to clean the stables.

I rode (h/n) down to the stables and put him/her in his/her pen.

"Right." I said and got to work.

I was absolutely exhausted after cleaning the stables from top to bottom, but I was finally finished.

I headed back to HQ for dinner, my stomach grumbled and I was starving. I walked in the door and saw everyone else had already started eating. I spotted Levi staring at me. I felt heat rise to my cheeks and then I thought, 'maybe he's annoyed at me for not going to his office, cleaning the stables took longer than I expected.'

I collected a tray of food and looked for an empty seat. I found one on a table with a blonde haired boy, a black haired girl and a brown haired boy.

"Do you mind if I sit here?" I asked nervously.

The blonde haired boy looked up at me and smiled, "Of course you can sit with us!" He cheered. "I'm Armin, that's Mikasa, and that is Eren!" He told me. Eren...I'd heard about him, he was the Titan shifter.

"Nice to meet you," I said with a nervous smile, "I'm (Y/N)."

"I think I saw you at training," Eren said, "I like your fighting technique." He continued with a grin. I felt myself blushing a little.

"Thanks!" I answered. I looked at Mikasa who had an annoyed look on her face. I decided to just look at my food instead...huh? I could have sworn there was a steamed potato on my tray a few moments ago. I stared at my tray, puzzled.

"Oh I'm sorry." I heard someone say. I looked around and saw a girl with brown hair tied in a pony tail. She was munching away on a steamed potato, my steamed potato. "I finished my food and was still hungry." She said with her mouth full. Bits of potato flew out of her mouth and landed on my face as she spoke, even though she was one the table next to me.

"It's alright." I mumbled.

"Here, you can have it back if you want." She said guiltily, holding out the half eaten potato.

"No, you keep it." I said with a forced smile.

"Really? Thank you so much!" She cheered and continued eating it. "I'm Sasha by the way!" She held out her hand and I shook it.

"I'm (Y/N)." I responded. She smiled and sat back down at her table.

I turned back around to see Eren smiling at me. "Is something wrong?" I asked, feeling a bit self conscious. He shook his head.

"Um Eren, would you like some of my food? You must be hungry, here have some." Mikasa said, directing Eren's attention away from me. I sighed, I was really tired from today.

I finished my food and stood up from the table to put my tray away.

"Here, let me take that for you." Eren said and took the tray from me. I noticed Mikasa had finished her food but Eren didn't take her tray. I sat back down, feeling awkward. A few moments later, I felt a tap on my shoulder.

"Cadet, meet me in my office." It was Levi.

"Yes sir." I responded and watched him walk away.

~.~ minutes later ~.~

I'd thanked Eren for taking my tray and headed to Levi's office. I don't know why, but I felt nervous.

I knocked on the door.

"Name and business." He said. 'He doesn't know my name.' I thought.

"Uh, (F/N) (L/N). You told me to come here." I managed to say. There were a few moments of silence.

"Come in." He said finally.
