Hi everyone! This is my first story so I hope you all like it! Lemme know what ya think :) <3
Chapter 1:
"Jennifer Shae Blackburn! Get up before I make you!"
"IM UP IM UP IM UP!!" I yelled back as my mom burst through the door.
"You have school today young lady! Now get up and get ready: the bus leaves in 10 minutes." My mother admonished me as she drew back the curtains to let in the Australian sunlight.
GAAAHHHH WHY DOES THIS ALWAYS HAPPEN?!?!?!?! I thought to myself as I crawled out of bed and picked through my closet. Selecting a black crop top with the French flag and some white cutoffs, and bright red high-tops, I fell back onto my bed and thought about last week.
*flash-back*
SPLASH! I dove into the salty ocean water and instantly felt ten times better. Nothing like the good ol' ocean water to wash away all stress. Coming up for air, I turned to survey the empty beach. Practically nobody was here and only a few dedicated surfers were out as far as I was.
This was my escape from reality. Nobody was here to put me down, no snide remarks were uttered when I passed: nothing. And I loved it.
The whole area was serene when I felt someone or something watching me.
Shrugging it off, I splashed around and looked down. No, it couldn't be, I thought to myself as I did a double-take. But there it was, shiny and cobalt blue. I had a mermaid tail.
Shocked, I floated for a minute as I let this sink in. Then, I pinched myself to make sure I wasn't dreaming. Sure enough, I wasn't. Deciding to test out my abilities, I dove under the water and opened my eyes. Everything was so beautiful under the ocean! I could see distant shoals of fish and my tail glinted in the fractured light. Finally, I breathed in and out. No problem. This is officially the freakiest day of my life!
Coming up for air, I looked around and saw several black ships closing in. I decided that it was time to head in. Diving under the water, I swam in towards the shoreline. When I could stand, I felt a tingling sensation and felt my feet rest on the soft sand. I waded in, packed up my stuff and left.
*end of flashback*
Getting up, I grabbed my school bag and trotted down the stairs to grab a peach and a bottle of water for the bus. My lunch money was already packed along with all my supplies and phone.
"Bye Moommmm!!!" I yelled as I sprinted out the door to the end of the street where the bus was just pulling in.
Climbing up the steps, I surveyed the available seating options. There's an open seat in the middle, but I'd have to climb over all of the bags stuck in the aisle. Oh well, the bags can suffer the pain. Thus I walk on the bags to the seat, plug in my earbuds and stare out the window.
The bus lurches it's way to my new school and I file out and follow the masses into the school. Reaching for my schedule, I bump into someone and fall down. Stupid 5'4 frame! I glance up to see a guy holding his hand out to me, saying something that I'm not comprehending. Oops. I take his hand and almost catapult into his chest. His hard, muscular chest to be exact.
"Are you okay? You kinda zoned out a bit.."
"Yeah yeah I'm fine thanks. Sorry for not paying attention." I blush and push my pin-straight black hair out of my face.
"No problem. I'm Daniel, but everyone calls me Danny." He smiles down at me.
"I'm Jennifer. Can you tell me where Pre-Calc is?"
"Sure thing Jen, can I call you Jen? It's in room 345, actually i'll just walk you there instead- wait I have that class so lets go!" He rushed as he grabbed my hand and pulled me back into the tide of aussies.
HAHAHAH I'm the lone American here! USA represent! Sheesh I really have a strange mind. Snapping back into reality, I reply, "yeah you can call me whatever you want as long as it's not offensive..." I trail off as we stop in front of the door. Oh math how I hate you so..
"You coming?" Danny asks as he holds the door open for me. I nod and walk in, grabbing a seat in the back. Danny slides in next to me and the bell rings just in time.
