Ezra POV

I heard Papa calling out to me and honestly I couldn't answer. He pulled me away from him to check and see if I was still alive. I guess he was satisfied because the next I knew he was hugging me tight again.

"Oh Ezra," he whispered kissing my head.

That did it, I started crying again. Papa rocked me gently back and forth and I just clung to him. I felt him stand shakily. He must have gone back to where Joe was waiting because he started yelling at Papa.

   "You crazy idiot!"

   "Joe..."

"Don't start on me, is he alright?"

Papa ran a hand through my hair a few times before answering.

   "Terrified but he's fine."

NPOV

Kanan just kept clinging to his son as much as Ezra was clinging to him. He looked up at the building as it finally collapsed all together.

"Well, I guess time to rebuild," Joe said.

"You're awful calm about this," Kanan commented studying his friend.

"Not much else I can do except go into the business for myself. What about you?" Joe asked.

Kanan looked down at the child and sighed.

"I don't know, I guess move on to the next thing."

"If you ever need anything, anything at all, just let me know," Joe said holding out his hand.

"Thank you, you are great friend," Kanan shook his hand.

Joe nodded before turning to Ezra.

"So long little one," he said placing a hand on his back.

Ezra looked at him his blue eyes shining bright.

"Don't forget us Joe," Ezra smiled.

"With a father like yours and those big blue eyes, it's hard to forget," Joe joked.

Ezra smiled before curling up against Kanan. Kanan just chuckled and patted his back in comfort.

After they had arrived home Kanan still seemed hesitant to release Ezra. . He sat on the couch running a hand through his son's blue hair and going over the day's events.

   "Papa," Ezra said quietly.

   "Yes."

"Are you ok?" He asked raising up so he could look into Kanan's eyes.

Kanan swallowed thickly. He could lie and say he was fine, but Ezra would see right through him.

"To be honest Son, no, no I am not."

Ezra stared in shock.

"I nearly lost you today and... I can't imagine my life without you Ezra," Kanan said his eyes glazing over with unshed tears.

Ezra POV

I saw the tears in Papa's eyes and that started my own. I lunged forward and hugged him as the tears began to fall.

"I love you, Papa," I whispered.

Kanan POV

Oh I don't know what I did to deserve this wonderful child.

"I love you, Papa," he whispered.

I felt his tears against my neck and I couldn't help it. I hadn't cried since my master's death and the removal of my padawan braid. However I began to cry wrapping my arms tight around my baby boy. I didn't care that we smelled like smoke and it was still in our lungs but for now it was just the two of us. Nothing was going to tear us apart. Little did I know how much that statement was going to be tested.
