The Things Our Drunken Parents Taught Us

Chipped teeth on cracked lips,
kissing sweaty palms and fingertips.
Shattered bones and broken ribs;
Images engraved on the insides of eyelids.
Bloody cheeks collide with dry throats,
inhaling cigars, exhaling smoke.
Long hair clings to damp necks,
and collarbones clash with bulging chests.
Fingers linger and voices crack,
whiskey drips down sopping backs.
Exposed bodies take shelters under covers,
this is how we learned to love each other.
