Chapter 1 : HARPER VALLEY
You know, it isn't that bad. That's what I tell myself everyday. If only it was that way. From the start they saw me as their protector. If only they knew who they were depending on. It's been 3 months since it started. We stay at the the school my Aunt teaches at. Well actually, taught. She got bitten, and left us with no one to educate the kids and keep their heads where they should be. We have a strong community. Our constructors and architectures decided to fence the whole surrounding of the school and it's parking lot for the future mishaps. I am who these guys look at for help. I suppose you can call me their leader. The "their I'm speaking about? That's my community me and my family scouted and began. When it was first founded, it was just my aunt Jesse and uncle Grason, my mother, my daughter, my son, and I of course. Out of that original group, it's just Grason, My boy Luke, My daughter Melanie, and I. I don't know why they decided I should be the leader, I'm just a middle age poker gambler that knows how to rock some suspenders. I'm not gonna lie, I was a shit father back when I took chances. I don't do that anymore. You probably think I'm a risking nylon since I gamble, no. Not after the shit I've had to put up with. I witnessed my mother get beat to death by 2 white trash pieces of shit that were scouted and let in by the scout team that I put a lot of my fucking trust in. I lost it and put a bullet through both of their heads, and right afterwards put a bullet through the brain of my own mother so she wouldn't turn to one of them. Our scout team had 4 sets so there's different shifts. They go out to outposts every other day to scout more people to strengthen our community. There's S1 S2 S3 and S4. I labeled the shifts to simple it up and keep people in their lane. S1 let the 2 white trash criminals in. On S1 there's 3 scouts. James, DJ, and Paul. DJ is the one who recruited them. This all happened a few days ago and I'm still deciding on DJs fait. It's not exactly his fault because we didn't have a set up interview outsiders had to pass to be in. They just were let in before. I do not tolerate death that's unjustified. That's what I was taught my whole life, my dad being a lawyer in all. My mom was a housewife and my bestfriend in hard scenarios. That's what makes this harder. I can't let my emotions depict this 19 year old kids future though because I know for a fact I wouldn't even give a shit if his mother got beat to death. Like I said before, we learned our lesson, unfortunately due to my mothers death but everyone for now on that is scouted must be interviewed. They have a set 5 questions they have to answer. If any red flags go off, they are sent back outside the fences. I don't think I introduced the community yet. We hold a strong 67 members including me. This school campus has been butchered into a town. The vocational school is our Hospital l up dead, they can't attack any living citizens. That set building is lead by a good friend of mine that was recently scouted, Greg. Greg lost his whole family. He was going suicidal because he thought he couldn't contribute, but I let him join my family, and gave him leadership to that building once he gathered himself. That suckers been hard as stone ever since. He's a team player and I like team players. The high school which is lead by my uncle Grason, is where All citizens but the elderly are homed. There's 3 floors. 55 of us. The top is where the head honchos and our families live. The head honchos are: Greg, a 45 year old dude who lost his whole family to this apocalypse. He's our sacrifice. He would do anything for the greater good. Noah, a 29 year old young gun who is the brains behind the work we put in; Grason, a 59 year old who was once a mayor of a small town, so he contributes quite a bit to the executive decisions with his experience he has; and Me, I haven't introduced myself exactly but my name is Ryan. I am a 6'3" 225 pound poker dealer. I was supposed to go to Duke University for some division 1 baseball, but due to a left wrist injury, it got delayed and I gave up on it. I'm 34 years old with two children. Now that that's done, the final head honcho is our construction and scouting leader: Marvin. Marvin is a complete badass that I've became very good friends with. He is always on watch duty every time I check the highschools roof top. He's our best shot, being a sniper for the Navy Seals team, so he puts it on himself to always be up there. Noah is a single geek that I doubt has even lost his virginity. Grasons lost everything he's got along with Greg. Marvin lost his wife during the apocalypse but still has two children (Meek and Dwayne). I am practically the principal of this place. I don't say principal because we're at a school territory but simply because that's my role here. Each branch is lead by either Marvin, Greg, Mason, or Noah. They all have huge responsibilities. All decisions they bring upon, I dictate and decide whether it's a yay or a nay. I am the last call on all decisions. It's sorta like a president role, but I'm not leading a country, I'm simply leading a 3 month old town that we've decided to be named Harper Valley. As you can see Harper Valley is off to a great start to the apocalypse and has great future.
