When a Swan Drowns
[BEN Drowned Fanfic/Romance]
Chapter 6: The Eyes of the Sheltered
She knew that she was being watched, indeed.
Ben gazed at the ever so peacefully slumbering girl that was now half-buried in the thick lining of quilts. Her fragile figure was one of the most pathetic sights that he had ever seen. He held no place for pity in that empty heart of his, he’s not actually sparing her for compassion’s sake.
He already considered running a weapon through her heart. After all, why should he wait to find a perfect moment? She was clingy, childish, weak and annoying, not mentioning that his usual methods of psychological and emotional torture is no longer effective to someone who was thoroughly conditioned to suffering and pain for three damned years.
But killing her at that instant was way too merciful. And mercy was never in his vocabulary. Why should he consider being compassionate if the world never showed him such when he’s still alive and worth of its offers?
He gradually frowned at the thought. Yes, even dead people become uncertain at times.
Lately while she was not around, he decided to pay a visit to a murderer in hopes for brainwashing advice, or a new way of inflicting terror to a normal human’s psyche. His efforts led to frustration, though. Jeff the killer seemed to be in a worse spot than he, and also experiencing the same indecision for bloodlust since he was quite obsessed with an emotionless girl living three blocks away, her house located beside the woods where the Slenderman can easily pay a visit. Frustration was something that he can’t take for an answer, but his ideas were running out.
Another day of letting Victoria live will mean that he will have to bear another day of hearing her ramblings. He was not really tired of it, but it she was now alive long enough for him to doubt his own skills. Their first meeting didn’t actually go well. It embarrassed him to the core.
Eventually he busied himself in taking a peek through Vicky’s private folders in her laptop, being a meddler that he was. At first he considered that this was nothing actually important, until a dark picture caught his eye. It showed Victoria Deverell in her pure white ballet attire, portraying the infamous Swan Princess. Indeed, it fits her. She was delicate, pure, not mentioning downright noisy. He focused his stare into the girl’s defiant face. Although defiance was not the fitting word for the tamed, sheepish face, the glint in her eyes was something that he can’t miss exactly. The way that her hair was curled up in place by pins, pearls and feathers…it was full of life and glory that was combined to one.
Unlike now.
But the imminent sparkle never left her eyes. In any emotion that her innocent face displays, her dark blue orbs glittered fiercely with life that her frail body failed to gather in. It was full of hope, adoration and love.
The ones that were usually seen in the eyes of the sheltered child. The same ones that he never had the chance to possess in a lifetime…not even in death.
Cussing himself for making moments melodramatic and wallowing in self pity, Ben instantly clicked the next folder beside it, and typed in the required password, successfully revealing its contents. It disclosed a huge array of videos, all in .wma format. Thoughtlessly, he clicked on the first video, entitled 'Afterlife [piano COVER].wma, and the media instantly redirected him to the scene--the living room scene beside the fireplace, where the huge piano was resting in, along with a younger-looking Victoria seated in front. For a while, she grinned at the screen, obviously fond of the someone who was taking the high resolution video. "Yeah, sorry if...it's a bit crappy," she apologized, sticking her tongue out, before running her hands on the ivory keys.
