Chapter Four

[Joey]

Tom left after about a half hour, promising that he’d be back again today. All morning, I’ve been a nervous wreck. He hugged me. No guy has ever hugged me. Well, except for Barry, but he was my step father at one point.

“Is Tom Joey’s boyfriend?” Molly asked my mom. My cheeks flared.

“No, he’s not!” I said, glaring at her. She and my mom giggled.

“I think Joey likes him.” My mom winked at her.

“Do not!” My cheeks flared again. Damn it… “He’s straight, as far as I know!”

“Damn.” My mom said. “I think you two would be cute together.”

“Shut up!” I whined.

“Joey and Tom sitting in a tree!” Molly screamed. “K-i-s-s-i-n-g! First comes love, then come marriage, then comes Tom pushing a baby carriage!”

“Shut up, Molly!” I yelled. “Wait, why am I the woman in the relationship? No fair!”

They giggled uncontrollably. I sighed and slipped on my shoes. Hopefully Tom will be here soon. As if an angel heard my prayer, there was a knock at the door. I ran to it and threw it open. It was Tom!

“Bye mom! Bye Molly!” I yelled, walking out and slamming the door shut. Tom raised an eye brow. “Uh, hi.”

“Hi.” He chuckled. I blushed.

“L-Let’s go.” I said, walking towards the elevator.

“Go where?” He asked.

“Anywhere.” I shrugged. “The mall, some park, your house…”

“My house?” He said.

“Yeah, if that’s okay?” I said, looking into his green eyes. Oh, beauty! But there was something else in them. Panic maybe? I furrowed my eye brows, straightening my body so I could see them better. He blushed and looked away.

“Yeah, my house is okay.” He said, then looked at his watch. “But, uh, can we wait a while? I don’t really want you to meet my family.” I tried to hide the hurt look on my face, but he obviously saw. “Not what I meant! My mom’s just weird and my sisters a bimbo.”

“That’s not very nice.” I said, walking once more to the elevator. He followed me, and we got on.

“Well, she is…”

“Tomas!”

“What?”

I rolled my eyes. “Never mind. If we can’t go to your house right away, where can we go?”

“I just moved here, how the hell am I supposed to know?” He asked. “Why can’t we just stay here?”

“Because my mother and sister are evil.” I blurted.

He laughed. “What about your dad?”

I looked down. “I have no clue who my real dad is. Well, my mom told me his name once, but I didn’t find a reason to remember him. My mom and step dad divorced a while ago. When I came out, he sorta disowned me.”

“Oh shit! I’m so sorry! I didn’t know…”

“It’s cool, dude.”

I just nodded, and kept my eyes from his. It hurt, but he’s not allowed to see that. Besides, I had an idea where we could go now.
