SORRY FOR THE LATE UPDATE!
MASON POV
"Hi..Mason! I am Matthew by the way, but you can call me Mattie!"
I looked at the younger blond man, with a bewildered expression. Is he who I think he is? The 'sperm donor' called him 'son' so.... He is my freakin' brother? Damn this is too much.
Not only do I meet my so-called 'father' Daniel, now I meet my half-brother as well? Okay.. So I'm not really shocked to know I have a sibling since I knew he married someone, so a child was not a shocking news. It's just that I'm not mentally, emotionally or physically ready to meet them yet. Yes, I said physically too because I plan to kick the good-for-nothing in the nuts. But alas, lucky him, I can't. Not yet anyway.
I rubbed my temple as I felt the tell-tale signs of an oncoming headache. I noticed Matthew slowly retrieving his outstretched hand when he realized I didn't return his enthusiastic greeting. His once broad smile dramatically turned into a frown when all I did was look at him.
Daniel cleared his throat to rid of the heavy silence that followed after, "Uhm Mason, son, I apologize for the sudden visit. I know this must be a surprise for you. I also know you did not want to see me, but I really wanted to get to know you, introduce myself to you, and this seemed like a perfect time. Your brother Mattie wanted to meet you as well."
"Perfect timing? Are you fucking kidding me? 26 years.. No actually 28 years, you didn't show your face. You didn't reach out to see me, to get to know me. And now that I'm paralyzed in a freaking hospital bed, and you tell me it's the perfect time to get to know me?!" I was fuming, angry at this stupid situation, pissed off that I am helpless and couldn't do anything but accept his help because of my uselessness.
Mom's hand reached for my shoulders, "Baby boy, calm down. There's no need to raise your voice or get violent, okay? You need to have a serious talk with your father but not in this fashion. And as you said, this is not the time for such talk. Now, your brother is here to meet you and he is no way at fault in anything between your father and yourself so no need to be rude to him. Do you understand me young man?" She scolded me in a way only a mother could and gently squeezed my shoulder to get her point across.
I took in what she said and realized she was right. Matthew was not at fault, if anything he was as much of a victim as i was. We were both caught up in our parent's problematic past. I'm even surprised that he took this revelation in stride and was eager to meet me. I gave Mom an apologetic smile which she gladly returned.
Turning my attention back to Matthew, I saw him biting his lip with his shoulders slumped while looking down at the floor. He looked like a kicked puppy. I actually felt guilty for ignoring him and basically not acknowledging his presence.
I took my time observing him and noticed we don't have anything in common. He was lean and small, a bit on the feminine side, while I was the 'tall-muscly' type. He had the typical boy next door look with his sandy blond hair and baby blues. And if my gaydar is correct -which most of the time is- then he bats for the other team as well. Oh at least we have something in common, I thought with humor.
"Hey Matthew?" His head immediately perked up and looked at me, "I am really sorry for such a rude first meeting. I didn't mean to, forgive me?"
His blinding smile was back full-force and next thing I know was his small body enveloping me in a tight hug. I awkwardly reciprocated his exuberant hug which made Mom and Daniel look at us with a smile.
"It is okay Mason.. I totally understand where you're coming from. I already heard a few things about the past and let me tell you I had my 'lashing out' moment with Dad earlier today. But we can talk about all of that soon. Ooh! Can I call you Bro? Or just Mason? Or better yet, Masy! Sounds much nicer, right?" He chirped excitedly.
