Author's note: This one shot is inspired by the song Terrible Things (and slightly Hold onto Me) by Mayday Parade. It's one of my favorite songs, if you haven't heard it, you need to listen to it, like right now. I even put the video up above.

No copyright intended.

This is the story of a girl I loved too much. She was the most beautiful woman that I'd ever seen.
It didn't take very long to fall and love with her, and she knew it too. She said, "Boy, can I tell you a wonderful thing? I can't help but notice you staring at me from across the room and I can tell by your eyes that you're in love with me."

And I knew I had my problems and she'd probably leave. But, as it turned out, she loved me too. We became inseparable soon enough. We would drink too much and lay out under the stars, talking about anything and everything. We were too young, too dumb, and too in love to really care about anything else besides each other.
Each of those blissful nights I would wait until I heard her laugh because somebody told me that the secret to keeping a girl in love with you was to make her laugh, but every time she does, I seem to be the one falling in deeper.

Then came one of my favorite nights. I looked at her and said, "Girl, can I tell you a wonderful thing? I made you a present with paper and string. Open with care now, I'm asking you please. You know that I love you...will you marry me?"
I'm not sure that I'd ever seen her that happy. With her wide smile, her glistening eyes, and her arms around my neck...I'm not sure that I had ever been that happy.

That happiness lasted and grew even more all the way through our wedding day. I held her small hands in mine and looked into her eyes forgetting everybody else was there.

"I do."

"I do."

"You may kiss the bride..." And then there were fireworks. The entire night was filled with her trinkling laughter. Even when she spilled red punch all down the front of her white dress. She just laughed it off, telling me that I now had a zombie for a bride.

The same happiness we had both that night and when we got engaged lasted forever.
Or at least for a few weeks. She looked at me and said, "Boy, can I tell you a terrible thing? It seems that I'm sick and I've only got weeks. But please don't be sad now, I really believe that you were the greatest thing that has ever happened to me."

And sometimes in the night she can hear me crying. She'll roll over to comfort me. I'll say, "It's four a.m girl, go back to sleep." But she'll look at me and whisper oh so quiet, "Hold on to me, hold on to me."

I was soon surrounded by slow beeping, white walls, and the smell of bleach. The atmosphere of a hospital. Cold coffee and wilted flowers sat by her bedside. She says, "Boy, can I tell you a terrible thing? It seems this is goodbye, but please don't cry. I'll see you in your dreams." Her eyes began to close as that dreadful beeping began to stop. I closed my eyes and whispered oh so quiet, "Hold on for me, hold on for me..."

Then there was nothing. No breathing, no beeping. Nothing except an agony filled scream, probably from some pour soul who had just lost someone.

I didn't realize that the scream belonged to me until I fell to the floor. My knees hitting the hard tile sending shock waves up my spine. The room around me spun in slow circles as I had to come to the realization that it was me. I was the pour soul that just somebody. That just lost their everything.

And son, I'm only telling you this because life can do terrible things. So don't fall in love, there's just too much to lose. If you get the choice, I'm begging you to chose to walk away. Walk away and don't let it get you. I can't bear to see the same happen to you.

This is the story of a girl I loved too much. This is the story of how I lost her to a terrible thing.

(A/N: Hey everyone! Sorry if that absolutely sucked, I wrote this in like ten minutes after my exam so I wasn't able to reference the song or anything and honestly, I was just too lazy to majorly edit once I got around to typing it. But anyways, I hoped you liked it. Any type of feedback would be fantastic! Until next time,

~Em)
