Promise: A Short Story

"Heem, you ready?" I questioned as his leg bounced. I can tell he was really nervous, but he should be okay.

It was hot as hell this Saturday, but good thing we were in the dentist office. Today, Raheem had to get some braces and Kason and I decided to come with him.

Ariel and Kaylin were working today at Kroger and Bryce was sick with the cold. Which is weird because I don't see how people get a fucking in the springtime.

Over the weeks, everyone grew close. I even got a little crush on Raheem, but I don't wanna tell him.

My life has been really good. I'm close to my mom, Khalil moved to Ohio with his so-called girlfriend, D'Mari is getting way bigger by the day, Rj finally moved down here, my grades are okay and no drama whatsoever.

Rj and D'Mari are having a little boy and I'm glad those two emotional ass kids moved into their apartment.

Only problem might have is Ashton, the dude with the septum, and Jade has been stalking me on Instagram and Snapchat. I tend to ignore it though.

I got on Snapchat and decided to take a video of Raheem biting his nails.

"Look y'all my best friend is nervous" I laughed. He got all in my camera faking like he was kissing it. I scrunched up my face.

"Ew nigga" I stopped the video and posted to my story. It wasn't even on there for a good thirty seconds before Jade and Ashton saw it.

I turned off my phone and glanced at Raheem, staring at me. I was about to say something when the dentist called his name.

"Raheem Waller?" a female said looking around. He stood up and looked back at me.

"Go get some food and take care of my car" he handed me his keys to his 2013 matte white Dodge Challenger. I nodded and took them out his hand.

He walked to the back with the dentist assistant. I stood up and ran out to the car.

"Sweet holy Jesus I'm in love!" I squealed and jumped into the car. I'm in loveeee with Raheem's car. My car that I got for my birthday wasn't coming until next Thursday which I am excited about.

I got in and started it up, driving to the Wendy's that is only fifteen minutes away from the dental clinic.

I went decided to go through the drive-thru since I saw that girl, Jade in there arguing with some guy. I couldn't see his face, but I had a feeling it was Ashton.

Ashton was my biology partner through out the whole school year. All he talked about was Jade worrying about child support when he barely gets to see his daughter which is obviously sad.

I ordered the 4 for $4 meal and waited patiently for them to give them my food.

Ashton was the cashier, but Jade was all in his face yelling and shit. I rolled my eyes, watching the scene unfold.

I listened into to the argument to find out Jade thinks she is pregnant again for him. He denies the baby is his because he used condoms. That made me a little upset because that was a huge fuckboy move.

I remember when D'Mari and Rj was in this situation. But, D'Mari cheated on him so I understood where he was coming from until she showed him all the evidence about how the dates matched up.

I was growing impatient, so I knocked on the window.

"Can you give me my food please? I've been waiting for damn near ten minutes" I spoke calmly.

Jade rolled her eyes and opened the window, throwing my bag of food at me. She even purposely dropped my drink on the ground in between the car and the window.

"Have a good day" she spat and glared at me. Ashton stood there dumbfounded.

I was glad my food didn't spill anywhere in Raheem's car because if it did Raheem would roast my ass for the rest of my life.

"Wait, why you in Raheem's car?! You fucking him or something?!" she questioned. I shrugged, taking off my seatbelt.

"I don't know baybeh girl you should ask him ya self" I said. I could tell I was getting upset the more she talked since my accent started coming out.

"Well listen up ya damn Alligator! Stay aw-" I cut her off by punching her.

My little ass crawled out the car window into the little drive-thru space. I jumped on her and gave her the biggest Louisiana beatdown ever.

I stood up grabbing her hair and slanged her around a little bit, knocking her into the space where the ketchup is.

"Stay out my business hoe!" I yelled, kicking her in the chest. I got on top of her again and started punching her even harder than I did before.

All Jade was doing was scratching my face which got me way more infuriated than I already was. I started punching her big ass forehead to the point blood got on my knuckles, but that didn't stop me.

Ashton scooped me up and pushed me to the wall.

"Chill out" he whispered in my ear. I scoffed and pushed him away.

Jade got up and literally spit at me, landing on my shirt. I grabbed the pocket knife out my shoe and launched it at her.

"Don't spit on me you lice infested ass bitch!" I screamed, spitting back at her.

All the customers did was watching and recording off their phones. I crawled back into the car and drove off.

I made it back to the clinic and ate in the waiting area. I put my hair into a messy bun. I didn't care about the red scratches on my face because it wasn't really major.

You could barely see them since I put my bangs out. They were mostly around my hairline anyways.

Raheem came out five minutes after and smiled at me. I smirked and decided to keep my little dirty thoughts to myself.

He looked so fine, but of course I wouldn't tell him that.

"Let me bring you home, my mouth is killing me" he sighed. I nodded and walked to the car.

We got in drove to the gas station to pick me up some Takis then he dropped me off at home.

"See you on Monday" he mumbled. I nodded and got out the car.

"Thank you" I said and walked to the porch.

"Text me later Dee" he yelled out. I smiled and walked into the house.

Why do I like him so much?
